i had wished him well.. until the premium info from the Scout UW said that he basically made up his mind "around June 1st that I was going to be a Husky"... and that the Texas interest was to "build hype for UW”

he's either been playing us this whole time, or he's really trying to say all the right stuff to his fanbase now... well we know what happens to those that screw with UT. whether he did or not will become obvious when he either becomes the next great NFL TE or is transferring to JUCO in 1 year.

Wow, chill out, dude.

He came to UT on his dime, not ours.

He's said great things about Mack, UT, and the Longhorns. When UW homers tried to ask him leading questions on the radio, he defended Texas.

In no way did he "screw with" UT.

Best of luck to the young man at UW.

If Colt.s info is correct, then he did indeed screw with Texas. If he said it himself, do you not believe him?
OTOH, if that is erroneous info..... nevermind.

Orange Marrow... i would have said the same thing you did until reading the full quotes (which i can't post due to premium info). however, here is part of an interview, again with damming info that says he was never really swayed from UW

the evidence..

If ASJ's comments about playing up the 'Horns to generate PR for Washington is true, then the 'Horns dodged a bullet and are better off without him. I wonder if Mack and his staff had already sniffed this out.

This kid never did catch my interest in the first place, we have the better TE already IMO. Good luck and don't let the door hit ya in the butt. I am only dreaming in color now, like Brown and Gray(next year).

I kinda looked at it like this. He wanted something really bad that he didn't have (an offer from Texas), and then when he got it, it was like, "meh...no big deal anymore." I think he was just being a teenage kid.

However, I wish him the best of luck.

Good luck to him, but I find his actions childish. He seemed like an extremely mature young man, and maybe he is, but if it's true that he's misled Texas for a few months now, then I have lost a tremendous amount of respect for the kid. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing setting him apart from Jamarcus McFarland was that Christmas was too far away and ASJ had no essays due in summer to write about all the dope and sleazy girls that we have in Austin.

Yes, I'm a bit flustered by it, and no I didn't expect him here. But the business side of me abhors this kind of action. If you're decided on where you're going to go, you should at least make it known to the school you're turning down simply so they can spend their scholarship elsewhere, no hard feelings.. not wait until the week before you announce your decision when you've known it for months.

He must have heard about our lucky TE position at Texas

Good luck to him....glad he did not go to blow u or other

those quotes are very unfortunate. i wish him well, but karma has a way of catching up to those who are dishonest with mack.

I don't like that quote, but I wish the guy well. I don't think he handled the recruiting situation poorly. It is always hard to pry a top out-of-state recruit away from home. There is pressure from many directions, including familial. Tough to overcome. We shouldn't be too upset by the news.

Good Luck to the kid. I don't consider his actions screwing with UT. He did nothing like a certain QB recruit from east of here a few years ago.

Its summer, Austin S-J made his decision early and is not twitting everyone until Febuary.

good luck to the young man.

I wonder if we'll get a quit commit from someone waiting for an offer from us as this scholarship comes free. It seems that happens often when we get a "no thanks."

Best wishes to A S-J.

I don't think UT got played. Mack made him spend his own $ to come here to get a scholarship he didn't want. If anything he looks like the ***.

He basically begged for the scholly, pumped it up like he was a UT lean, TOOK A HOOK 'EM PICTURE WITH OUR COMMITMENTS, and flew down here on his own $. Oh, and somehow after paying to fly down here he forgot how much it cost and had to go home to research plane ticket prices. All of this for a scholarship he knew he wasn't going to accept. Why do all of that if you aren't seeking attention and being an idiot?

I'm not mad at him, or upset about him going to UW. We are Texas and one recruit doesn't make or break our success. But, I'm not going to wish someone luck when they jerk us around. I wish him Karma.

I hope he has a good career @ UW. Can't blame the kid for staying home. Now a spot is open for someone else who really wants to come here.

A high profile program can become a magnet for players wanting joy ride trips to schools they have no intention of attending. Texas has this policy to only host those UT really feels have genuine interest before extending not just a scholarship, but the weekend visit itself.
So if a player lists UT out of the blue, they often have to visit on their own nickel the first time, to show interest.

Weeding out the true non-interested is probably the hardest job the staff has to do. The first step is the school showing some interest (which is a planned thing). Then it is up to a group of 17 & 18 year old boys. Some act like responsible young men and some act like asses. I would be uncomfortable knowing my future was tie to the decisions that this group makes.

Since Mack would not pay this guy's way down (and holding true to Mack's position that no one gets an offer without meeting him first), I would say the Texas staff had a good handle on the situation.

Whether the kid will be subject to the curse will play-out over the season. If he and his family keep quite and don't start bad mouthing Texas - no curse. However if momma comes and and says the reason he isn't at Texas is because of something that happened during the visit (which she did not see) - curse.
