Austin Restaurants-Recommendations Needed

What are some good, reasonably priced ($8-$16) restaurants in the area of the Frank Erwin Center?
No Asian restaurants.
Taking folks to an event at the Frank Erwin Center.
Probably will look at lights at Zilker afterwards.
They like American, Italian, Mexican food, "comfort" food
And also some within a 5-10 mile radius?

Take them to El Chile on Manor Rd, just East of campus. Take the Manor Rd. at the traffic lights, not the loop around. It will be on the right at Lafayette (where the Physical Plant offices are).

Also, try Hoovers which is across the street about a block further East on Manor Rd. It does not get much more comfort than this.

Both of these are a mile from campus if that.

Brick Oven is solid too.

If you want to try Ethiopian food there is Aster's on the Southbound frontage of 35. It is just past the Roadway Inn but just before you would take the off ramp to 26th/Dean Keaton. The flavors are amazing and it is quite an experience for first timers. I think you will enjoy it. Ethiopian is one of my 3 favorite cuisines of the world.

Comfort food= Hoovers. They make a good margarita too.
