Austin - Port A

So I'm making the annual trip from Austin to Port A this week. I'm looking for something, anything to break the trip up. I've stopped in Goliad a couple of times, but other than that, it is pretty bleak. I'm okay going a little out of the way if I need to. Is there anything to see between here and there?

Could be a museum, a good BBQ joint (Lockhart is a bit too close), or just some interesting attraction.

Thanks.

Well we always use food as the trip breaker. Initially we used to stop in Luling for barbecue, but the last several trips we have stopped at Chris Madrids in San Antonio for burgers (they are incredible). The drive down 35 is not as nice as the 183 route, but it is a little faster.

Thanks JD. I thought about that (haven't been there, but have heard lots about it). I think that we may stop off at McMillan's BBQ in Fannin, Texas. They were listed in the recent Texas Monthly BBQ issue. It is about 3 hours from Austin in the direction of Port A.

That is about all I can find between here and there.

We take 123 out of San Marcos to 181. That route goes through Seguin, Kennedy, and Karnes but I don't make any stops.
