Austin Peay

Anybody happen to watch these guys play this year?

BTW, their original name was "Austin Peay State Normal School for Rural White Teachers".

We should destroy them on the inside. They don't start a guy over 6'6 and have no one weighing over 210. We won't need him but, Gary Johnson would do some serious damage here. Also, if we can get Damion James off the 3 point line for a couple possessions we he can be a bulldozer down there too. They don't have an inside game.

Looks like they started the season poorly...lost 6 out of their first 10. Finished the season strong winning 11 of 12.

They didn't beat anyone significant and did not appear to be competitive with Vandy or Memphis. We better win by 25...

Well, we are a 15-seed, who'd you expect, the Spurs? And of course they don't play these games "on paper", since if they did, we'd likely beat you by, let's see...based on this season's results:

Missouri over Texas by 13
Illinois over Missouri by 1
Tenn. St. over Illinois by 2
Peay over Tenn St. by 18

So that's, um, a 34-pt Peay victory ? To be honest, we don't like this matchup at all, but we are playing the best basketball of the season by far right now.

Congrats on the 2-seed, and let's have a great game!

Both those scores a little misleading. The Govs started off horribly against Memphis at the FedEx Forum so the deficit came very early in the contest. Once they settled down they pretty much played the Tigers evenly. Vandy had an 8 point lead in the 2nd half then had a spurt. Still, both those games were very early in the season and the Governors really came together midway through. They played some fantastic basketball down the stretch. Texas, though, is not a good matchup for the Peay or for anyone!

Yeah, I think stopping the Horns down low will be the greatest defensive concern for the Govs who are indeed undersized. Reed, Lockett and Fields all play bigger than their size as the Govs are usually smaller than nearly everyone they play. So, yes, undersized but very athletic. Hitting the glass will be another crucial factor if the Govs even hope to have a chance.

AtlantaGov! What's up? I agree, I do not like this matchup at all. I would have a lot more confidence if we had drawn Duke because we match up well against them. I do think that, defensively, Loos will need to get away from playing straight up man for 40 minutes and mix it up... often. Loos will need to to at least try to keep the Horns a little off balance.

String/Atlanta Gov -

You guys have probably been "outsized" all season. When you win, what's the key...?

Do we need to give the Peay fans a quick update on the standard story list for the team (i.e. DJ moved because of Hurricane Katrina, Dexter Pitman really lost some weight) so they can complain at the announcing crew when they inevitably come up again?

Well Texas ain't exactly known for points in the paint this season either, but it looks like Sexy Dexy and Chapman could see some PT.

To those in Tenn joining us, good luck, we'll see you in barefoot country.

tallgrant,
I think that's a good idea. I think there should be a new thread at the top of the page for visiting fans detailing all important facts about the 2007-2008 Texas Longhorns.

I appreciate the two Austin Peay fans visiting our board. If you have any desire to break down your team for us, I for one would be thrilled.

Thank you so much for your participation on Hornfans.com. Congratulations on your team making it to the NCAA tournament, and good luck --- although not TOO much good luck!

How do you catch a polar bear?

You cut a hole in the ice and spread peas all around the hole.
Then when the polar bear comes up to take a Peay, you kick him in the ice hole.
