Austin Handyman for Dog Door

I've actually done couple of them and I'm no super handy man. I bet you can do it yourself. Petco or similar stores have the kits and they really are easy. I've used both the kind that that sits next to a sliding door and the kind that installs into a real door. The instructions are easy to follow and all you should need is a drill and jigsaw plus a screwdriver or 2.

This really is a simple project. If you're installing into a regular door, just get the kit at Petsmart. The frame is in two rectangular pieces. One piece is the outside part, the other is the inside part. You just cut a hole in the door using the template that's included in the kit, and then screw the two halves of the frame together. That's it.

The door is easy to cut. Borrow a jigsaw. If your door is solid, you might need an extra blade. If your door is steel-coated like mine, you'll need a few heavy-duty blades.

I had a roommate once who made the hole in the door using a chainsaw. That was cool, and maybe the easiest way of all.
