Hey there...I'm meeting my family in austin on sunday for lunch. My mom asked for a good place to eat. Being that I am at A&M, I have no idea. So, I would appreciate some suggestions....even though I am an aggie. Thanks.mexican food is prefereed...
thanks....
on to football...who is your favorite horn?

El Patio on Guadalupe and 30th (maybe 31st) is a fine place to get some REAL Mexican food. I am from San Antonio and that is the only place in Austin that has come close to the Mexican food from the Alamo City. Maybe somebody else has found something decent...

Matt's El Rancho is a favorite of many but I prefer Maudi's on Lake Austin Blvd near Exposition. You could scroll down on the bar to the left to find the "Austin" Link on this page.

Chuy's. Best tex-mex ever anywhere. End of discussion.------------------
i'm not him or me. i'm someone else.

I love Chuy's! You've gotta try their Chimachanga (ChuyChanga); it rules. Their queso is good, as well.Three locations; best parking at Duval & 183 location.

Guero's on south Congress has some very good items, especially anything that includes the marinated chicken breast. Same for Nuevo Leon on east 7th Street, a couple of blocks east of I35. The good stuff there includes carne asada and shrimp saltillo. Further east on 7th is El Azteca, which I like a lot. I think everything I've had there was good.

Chuy's, Matt's, and Iron Cactus are very good places. Another great place is Trudy's. They have huge hamburgers, great salads (according to MY mom), and they're specialty, Fajitas and Migas, are freakin awesome. Decent prices also. It's located on 30th street. I reccomend it!LHS34------------------

ok, print this page out and circle this post if you want to eat at the best Mexican restaurants:First off, do not go to Matt's El Rancho unless you're bringing a ton of kids and you are only hungry for cheap, microwave dinner food.In order
1)Fonda San Miguel
2)La Palapa
3)Z Tejas Grill
4)Texican CafeTrust me, you'll thank me for this.

There is no other option - Chuy's on Barton Springs. The best god damned food on the planet, and affordable to boot. If you want something really interesting, try Chuy's Hula Hut - it's Polynesian Tex-Mex. Basically, Chuy's with a seafood and pineapple flare. Plus, the outside seating is wonderful this time of year - they have a huge patio right on Lake Austin.

Little Mexico on S.First and Oltorf or
El Azteca on E.Seventh.------------------
Looks like I picked a bad
week to quit sniffin' glue.

Was it just a coincidence that the banner ad when I clicked on this page was for Mexicana Airlines?

All of the good mexican food is on the east side in the mexican part of town. Go figure. Chuy's is good, but for posers. Also, highly underrated mexican food is at Texas Chili Parlor. Get the three enchilada plate with one of Freda's with XX chili and two Ranchero enchiladas. If you decide against mexican, go to Bert's BBQ and order a Turbo T-Man. Just make sure you have nothing to do the rest of the day, for you'll be laid up for quite a while. BTW, I'm not Big Daddy because I DON'T know where to eat.

I still don't understand people's obsession with Chuy's. The place is okay, at best.

I'm from a border town, and know what REAL mexican food is like. Chuy's is not that good. Neither is every place in Austin.

Guero's has good marinated chicken. And Las Manitas has really good salsa. Other than that, the mexican food in Austin sucks.
