Austin Drivers

The rubbernecking is bad, but the real problem is the dehydrated idiots.

At least, that's what they must be. Our streets are relatively sane when it's dry, but add more than 1 drop of water falling from the sky, and the streets are filled with idiots driving one of two speeds -- 5 mph or 90 mph. There must be dehydrated idiots at the side of every road, waiting to be reconstituted by rain so they can gum up the roads.

And Houston drivers are MUCH better than Austin drivers. Austin drivers are just morons -- they have their heads up their asses, don't pay attention, and never check mirrors or anything like that. They are clueless, and clueless is unpredictable. Whereas Houston drivers are all trying to kill you. Homicidal tendencies are predictable. I can drive with rpedictable drivers -- it is nerve-wracking to drive with unpredictable drivers.

Give me homicidal maniacs over morons any day.

Go back to Houston then. I don't mind the traffic or the drivers here at all. Of course, I live just across the river, 10 minutes to downtown. Mopac and I-35 aren't issues if you buy a house in central Austin.

Horn21 - How bout those Rangers? And the humidity was good for my skin!

For real though, the drivers in H-Town are agressive, drive the speed limit (at least), and they know that a yellow light actually means 4 more cars can squeeze through. Driving on I-35 and 183 sucks so bad that I basically avoid them now.

Considering that there are only about twelve of us original Austinites, these "Austin" drivers are from parts else where. I love how the people who move here from ******** cities complain how they missed it. If you don't like this city, get the **** out. Nobody asked to come here. The dumbass drivers you complain of more than likely came from your former city.

Geez. I live central too, but you still have to get on the freeway every now and then. And Austin has LOTS of things going for it. Good drivers ain't one of them.

They don't pay attention.
Rear view mirrors do not function within the city limits.
They don't know how to merge onto a freeway (briliant stopping on the on-ramps).
They don't anticipate -- lane ends, and they're bumping against the curb, trying to merge -- apparently, they didn't see the 3 signs telling you that the lane would end.
Red lights -- more folks run red lights here than in ANY city I have ever been in. And it looks like more the "head up your ***" running than the "I'm a daredevil" running. Hell, I have MISSED my light here because I had to wait for all of the morons running the red light.

I don't know or care where they came from -- maybe they were morons when they left home, maybe they became morons when they got here. Whatever the case, the driving style in Austin is pathetic.

That said, anyone who ******* too hard about Austin traffic has never had to endure Dallas or Houston, or Cleveland, or Boston. Our traffic is a cakewalk compared to those towns. It's getting worse, though (maybe that's what makes the drivers seem so bad -- the difficulty level of the traffic is going up much faster than driver aptitude is improving).

PC, you're right bad drivers suck. No way of telling where they came from or who didn't teach them to drive. But I can tell you this, when I see sucklahoma or arkansas plates I know why they drive like ****. tamu stickers are just hadicap stickers when comes to driving. I blame the DPS for giving bad drivers licenses .

I nailed the **** out of this guy last year that came to a complete stop on an on ramp, and their wasn't a yield sign or anything like that.

Somehow that was my fault.

I lived in Washington DC for two years. Gridlock and driving styles from all over the country. That was a terrible place to drive. I guess that's why I don't think Austin is that bad.

If you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk.
But for a real fun driving experience, try Mexico City.

And how about the old people that drive as if every one else on the road was invloved in Death Race 2000 and they might be killed immediately if they deviate from the speed limit by so much as 1 mph or, heaven forbid, drive THROUGH a yellow light. It never ceases to amaze me what bad drivers they are. And turning right at a red light (where no sign is posted and there is no traffic for miles)? Forget it, you damn crazy young whippersnappers!

Houston blows, go back to that ********.

The problem with Austin is that people stop to look around everytime someone's car is on the side of the road.

Face it, guys. Drivers everywhere pretty much suck! You have the same a-holes ignoring the "lane ends" signs so they can get two cars ahead of you and then slam on their brakes in Austin, Houston, or Dallas. And rubbernecking is a universal problem. Ya wanna see twisted-up cars?? Go to the freakin' wrecking yard! And quit talking on your damn cell phone, too!

You want to see some ****** driving, try Laredo at night. Lane stripes are suggestions, red lights are recommendations, and sensible driving is an invitation to get sideswiped.

I've lived in NYC, D.C. and L.A. off and on during my lifetime, as well as a few other places, yet kept my roots and such here in Texas. I now drive a bus in Austin. Without qualification, the worst drivers I have been around reside in or drive around in Austin, Tx. I live central so I don't mess w/ 'em too much. You guys have NO IDEA how bad it is until you are going slower than all of them and observe. When you are going the same speed and doing the same antics, of course it does not seem too bad.

Each city has their problems. Some of the worst "traffic" I have ever seen was in Baton Rouge, LA. I guess it is all relative but Austin takes it up a notch. Any of you that have lived in D.C. knows the fear of a good snow. You have people from all over the world living there at any given time. Many, many of them have never even seen snow till that time and then....look the hell out. Yikes.

Have a great day and drive friendly. **** safely, friendly will suffice.

Austin driving sucks because about half of the people still think of it as a small town. The only way to deal with it is to weave, and live inside the loop.

Jester, you have never been to Corpus have you? Talk about some no-drivin' mother *******. Even though Austin traffic is hectic and slighty congested, I would rather drive amongst Austin drivers ANYDAY.
