Austin Country Clubs

I'm currently in the investigation stages of joining an Austin Country Club. The golf course(s) is important, but the pool, family atmosphere, and location are more important due to wife and two little ones. I've got a list of the Initiation Fees from last months Avid Golfer magazine, but I'm curious of what monthly dues are running. If anyone can list what they know and what they like about them (pool, family atmosphere, overcrowded at all, etc.), I'd greatly appreciate your help before calling them and setting up appointments.

Due to my location, I am most interested in information on Lost Creek, River Place, and Barton Creek (probably can't afford, but still can dream). Thanks.

Austin Country Club and Spanish Oaks are the two best. Those are followed by Barton Creek, but you have to deal with the tourists as it is a resort. Lost Creek is very average in an aging neighborhood. It's a terrific neighborhood, however, the houses are some of the oldest in Westlake. ACC is the best, but it's difficult to get accepted from what I hear.

That's what I know...I know nothing about prices.

Twin Creeks is a Top 5 course in Austin, a nice little secret... My neighbor belongs to BC but plays TC.....

PM me and I will give you the particulars

I belong to Great Hills and really like the course and pool. They killed the greens about 2 years ago, but have hired a new superintendent who has done a great job. Basic dues, including driving range fee are about 300/month.

Barton dues are $400/mo and, aside from having to plan ahead for tee times, it's pretty awesome. in particular, if you have kids they have a great kids club which comes in handy when you're playing golf. Also, awesome family activities particularly around holidays (halloween/christmas/easter)

Spanish Oaks is a great course but it's a hike and substantially pricier than BC and, oh yeah, no clubhouse or pool.

I play ACC all the time and love it but I think it's a notch below BC. Lots of blue hairs, one course (vs 4), and unlike Barton, you get tagged with assessments from time to time.

Lost Creek is a nice little club. You don't have to be long of the tips because it's a pretty short track. You do however need to pretty accurate as it's narrow and anything of the first and second cut can be brutal.

I would check on the greens though. Lost Creek was notorious several years back for not being able to keep nice greens for more then a couple of months out of the year. I know they have completely rebuilt them 3 or 4 time in the last ten 15 years.

You will find yourself following some good company if you do join LCC. When we were members there,James Street and Cotton Spier belonged as well.

As for your kids, they will have the run of the place. LCC is one of the better family clubs around that does not ask for your first born in exchange for membership.

A friend of mine was just excepted at ACC after a lengthy wait and he loves it. But he likes thatkind if high roller stuff as he grew up under the shadow of his father whom was a huge high roller at the old ACC and still is the knew one.

Think ultra exclusivity. Is that what your looking for? Why did i even right this ? Why are we talking about ACC ? Not on your list.
