Austin Christmas Trees

Where is the best place in town to get a Christmas tree? I remember last year people railing on Home Depot for selling trees cut back in June. So, who sells fresh trees? Red Barn?

I don't really feel like going to the local tree growers out of town and cutting down my tree.

I know there are a couple of tree lots up on Mopac around 2222 and Far West. That's where I went last year.

Just go to Papa Noel or one of the other places that pop up this time of year.

I ended up going to Red Barn. They told me a story about how their trees were cut seven days ago, shipped in refrigerated trucks, given a fresh cut when they got to Austin, stored in water, and cut again when I took it home. I paid >80 for a 8' tree. I got the middle priced variety of tree they had. I bought a $20 8' tree last year on Christmas eve. I think I will wait until Christmas eve next year.

Go out to one of the Christmas tree farms just outside Elgin and cut your own....

There's also one near Bastrop, but I've never been there and it looks like a bit of a drive...

I bought one of the big fake ones from Garden Ridge last year for $110. I figure it has already paid for itself, and it will not burn my house down. And, it looks good.
We set it up last night, and I discovered to my infinite joy that I had left the 25 strands of lights intact when I packed it up last time, thus saving me 2 hours of stringing lights. Somtimes I surprise myself.
