Austin Boat Parking Help

So I just got a certified letter from the City of Austin saying I'm in code violation for parking my boat in my driveway. I know several co-workers that do the same thing and have never heard a word from the city. I had my boat parked in my driveway for a year before I put it in storage and never heard a thing about it. I just brought it back to my house 2 weeks ago because the storage place is raising prices. Is the city correct? Why the hell are all the other people in my neighborhood allowed to keep their boats in their driveways?

That's odd, I used to park my boat in our driveway (just west of Lamar & 29th) and never had any problems. The neighbors didn't like it, but they couldn't do anything about it because there wasn't a HOA. Is this a new law?

Also we used to have way more vehicles + recreational vehicles than licensed drivers, but no garage. I would have been way up Sh-creek if someone had reported me.

I don't know if this will work for you, but you could try leaving the boat hooked up to whatever you tow it with. Assuming you have another car to drive around, just leave this setup in the driveway. If/When the police complain claim that since the boat is on a trailer and the trailer is attached to a vehicle it follows the rules as if it were JUST a vehicle and as long as it's operable it should be legit. There's another rule that specifies boats, but by bringing up the trailer rule you're at least pointing out some gray area.

only one car, unfortunately. I guess I have to look into the fence option, as I'm not going to pay $75 a month to have it sit in a ****** storage shed that rats/mice have access to.

and there is no doubt who reported me. Both of my side neighbors are old POS that hate me. They have no jobs and religiously work on their houses/yards and hate me because my house/yard isn't up to their standards. I'm not old, I work 60+ hours a week and don't give a **** how nice my house/yard looks. I would kill both of them in a heartbeat if i thought I could get away with it.

Fitting username.

There is a crappy marina in Volente that charges $80 a month for storage (on your trailer, uncovered) but you also get unlimited launches. Depending on how many times a month you launch, that can add up.

I am pretty sure they will also let you put a canopy out there to put your boat under. There are several people that have them.

Something tells me that if the neighbors were doing something that rage-a-holic didn't like, he'd be first one whining and calling the city to report them.

If you can't afford storage, you can't afford a boat.

Suck it up, Cheapskate.

Parking a boat in your driveway is very white trash.

Jeez...He is coming off as sort of an ******* but it's not like he's leaving shopping carts in the parking lot or anything.

And yes, I agree. He should be able to park his boat in his driveway. But it is also something that should have been looked into before buying the house or the boat. No matter. At this point it's just time to move it.

Does the "no more than one vehicle per licensed driver" rule apply to motorcycles? If so, I would think anybody with a bike would be in violation.

And I agree with Anastasis. I don't like the blanket assertion by the city that you can't park your boat in the driveway. That's what HOA's are for.

Since when is parking a boat in your driveway White Trash? I don't see too many hillbilly inbred deliverence-types with the money to own a NICE boat. You are all acting like he must have built it himself using trash cans for pontoons. I guess I shouldn't speak for him, but I know *I* own a nice boat, and have had a lot of trouble in the past with things getting stolen at storage facilities. I used to park my boat in my driveway, so I could look after it. Not keeping it in storage had nothing to do with how much storage costs. If this makes me white trash so be it.
