Ill be visiting Austin for a non-football related event (Austin record convention) for the first time in 15 years. Intead of buzzing in and out we'll be able to relax and take in the many other non UT things that make austin great. I was wondering what the best brewpubs/ breweries are these days........ best beerstore, and homebrew supply shop would be nice as well.

Thanks for your help

Is it Drafthorse or Draught House? Anyway...i think it is the same place and i 2nd that one as well as Lovejoys.

My bad, Draught House.

The Link Check out the draught house link. Also see the local beer blogs on the left of that page.

I used to live a block away from the Draught House and I can attest to its greatness.

There's a place on Barton Springs called Uncle Billy's that has the brewer who used to brew for Bitter End. Their beer is pretty darn good, food's good but not super. Nice patio.

Check out Opal Divines while you're there. Great beer and scotch selection and most of the staff are very informed on the selections available

Consider taking the bus as these places are all along bus routes:

The Ginger Man
The Drafthorse
Red's Porch
The Flying Saucer
Lovejoy's
Dog and Duck
Black Star Co-op (when it opens)

If you have a smartphone use google maps and tell it where you want to go and it'll figure out exactly where to walk to and which bus to grab. No need to look at a route book. It's fantastic and has expanded the number of bars I can get to cheaply without driving or taking a taxi.

Depending on the days you're in town, you should check out the free tour at the Live Oak Brewery. Theirs is my favorite of all of the Texas beers, and not only can you get free samples during the tour, but you might actually learn something about beer.
