Austin Bachelor Party / Golf Reccos

A friend is setting-up a bachelor party in Austin and needs reccos on golf, steaks, and bars.

Group – about 10 guys, all over 30 and costs are not a concern. They are not from Austin. Pretty good golfers – handicaps from 8-20.

Golf
Looking for someplace near Austin. Is Barton Creek an option if they are not staying at the resort? Also, what about Avery Ranch, Forest Creek, or Star Ranch. Have you played them and rec one over the other. Any courses of quality near Central Austin (ACC and the Munis notwithstanding)?

Sullivans
Capitol Grill

Barton Creek's one public access course (at least in town) is closed for the summer, but if it's after mid-September then I would recommend it (Crenshaw).

I'd say his best bet, which is a bit of hike but no worse than the others you mentioned, would be Falconhead on 620.

For steaks, hard to go wrong but Sullivans is in a great location for going out afterwards. Lots of good bars in the area.
 
My guess is that Barton Creek would hook you up whether or not you stay there, but that's just speculation. I really have no idea. I played the Fazio Canyons course as part of a business conference once and it was spectacular.

Haven't played Forest Creek. I've been to Avery Ranch but haven't played it. Played Star Ranch a couple of times. Decent course but if those are your options, I'd second Falconhead instead. Much nicer scenery, much better course than Star Ranch, and probably better accomodations than all three.

If you just want to stay north for whatever reason, you might consider Terra Vista in Round Rock. I haven't played there but my impression is that it's a notch or two above Avery Ranch.
