Austin Apartment Advise

I am suddenly and unexpectedly looking for an apartment in Austin. I currently live in "West Campus" and being a recent graduate, can not afford to live over there any longer.
Can anyone give me some good advise on where to look?? I will be working in the Downtown/UT area and would like to stay reasonably close, because I hate the morning traffic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You might want to go with an apartment finding service. You give them an amount and they'll do the searching for you...of course, you might have to pay $100 for this service, but it's sometimes worth it if you are looking for something immediately and are in a limited budget.

There is an apartment for rent on 14th and Rio Grande, above a title company. It is a 1-1, and it is right downtown. You can probably get anywhere downtown in 5 minutes or less. Their number is 322-2024. I dunno how much its going for right now, but its a nice location, and I think all bills are paid. Hook'em!

Send me a private message if you have any questions or you want more info.

I had to pay $100 to Apartment Finders in West Campus when I was looking for a place 2 years ago...does that mean I got taken?

I am such an idiot!! It's been over a week since i posted this thread and I am just now noticing that I misspelled the word "advice".

Anyways, thanks for everyone's ADVICE. I found a kick *** place off Oltorf. Hook 'em!

HornGal: Fyi, you can still ride the UT shuttles to campus/downtown. You don't have to show any form of ID and it is free. Just know the schedules of days when they are not running or in service. You can do so online.

bobby,
I can't believe you paid those sleezeball apartment finders. They get your first month's rent as a commission from the apartment complex, they shouldn't be taking money from you also.

If I were you, I'd call up and talk to someone you don't know there acting like someone new and ask them if their service is free. If they say yes, tell them you just recorded the conversation and you want your $100. If they say no, ask them why they charge when their 20 competitors don't, I'd really like to know the answer.

I really like my location, and if you can get a roommate, it's pretty cheap. Barton Skyway by Campbells hole. Mostly young, out-of-college people. Great location, close to downtown, next to greenbelt, but minimal traffic because it's secluded from any large neighborhood or office. We pay 800/mo for a 2 bedroom.

There are a ton of apts, but to find nice ones without students it will be either VERY expensive, or not near downtown

Chance and I are both locators in Austin, and either one of us will be happy to help you and it won't cost you a dime. As a matter of fact, I will rebate your app fee to you up to $50. PM either of us if you would like some help. If you don't want to be around students, you will pay a LOT less and get so much more for your money!

Oops! Just saw the date on this! Sorry!
