Augustin vs. TJ Ford

Being an OU fan, I've been on the wrong side side of several ***-kickings by both of these guys. Obviously, they are both tremendous players, but I was interested in what Horn fans thought of the comparison. If you had to make a choice, would you take Augustin over Ford or vice versa ?

Right now that is a tough call. I would take Ford right now since he lead UT to the final four. If DJ leads us there then it is a toss up. Need less to say they are both amazing.

DJ is a baller, no doubt about it. Ford was a once in a generation type (for Tx fans) player, the type of athlete that had that extra gear in crunch time. He had the 'it' factor of a VY (sorry for the football comparison).

And this is nothing against DJ, he is a tremendous player that I am very happy to have.

Ford was playing w/ 3 year starters.

He could jump out of the gym, and make the crazy pass.

DJ is a tremendously better scorer, imo. I hate the way he shoots off balance, but he gets it down. Is not nearly the same assist guy as Ford.

They both have an extra gear. They both are closers.

But I guess have to give the nod to Ford for being from out of this world. Too bad about the neck injuries.

DJ's a better shooter by far, but I wouldn't say that 4 extra ppg makes for a "tremendously" better scorer.

I would go with DJ on this one.

I'm a layman in making observations, but it appears to me that DJ can simultaneously create plays and play-making situations while doing it with a style that enables more complete player development for the rest of the team.

DJ's game is good, better and best... and continues to show room for even more. While at the same time, Barnes is able to more fully develop all the other players and the team.

I'm now to the point that I judge athletes in team sports by their contribution to the total game: a high level combination of what they do and improve upon doing, while also creating a higher level of what the coach is able to do with the team and all the other players.

If I'm choosing up sides, I would not hesitate to take DJ as my point guard, and you can take TJ.

I also think DJ has better shooting skills off the dribble in penetration. He doesn't kick back out as much or pass of while driving, but he makes up for with Nash-like shots.

I love DJ. But this answer here is TJ, hands down. TJ was a guy who could kick your *** without scoring a single point. He could dribble out the shot clock, then hit a guy for a layup.

He made everyone around him better. You can't put a price tag on that.

There's a reason he was national player of the year.

The answer is TJ and its not even close. Can you imagine what this team would be like with TJ dishing out assists the way he does?

Abrams, Atchley, and James are all money when they get open looks which TJ was the master of creating. TJ always found that open guy underneath when the help defense came. DJ struggles with that and is more inclined to put up a shot.

This isn't a knock on DJ as I think hes an awesome player and his shot is definitely better than TJs. TJ was just something else.

TJ without a doubt. And although you didn't ask, I'd take TJ over Durant as well.

TJ could make me look good at basketball.

T.J. DJ is awesome but think of how many assists per game TJ would have if he was playin 38 minutes a game and had these players. DJ shoots better but TJ got to the basket so well that it didn't matter. TJ handled the ball better and was much quicker and played better D. DJ is awesome and is one of the best players we have ever had but TJ is the guy who made Texas basketball. With this team I think TJ would probably average 16ppg, 9apg, 2spg, and a few boards.

Built FORD tough was the slogan the car company came up with after watching TJ take it to the rack in the tournament whilest only weighing a buck and a half soaking wet.

I love James Thomas, but he and Klotz dropped lots of gimmes given to them by TJ. JT, once he did catch one, bricked the layup half the time.

It's TJ, no question in my mind.

This is no knock on DJ at all (just to repeat what's probably unnecessary), but TJ was just otherworldly except for the lack of range on his shot. Maybe this is burnt orange goggles, but I think if TJ had a good outside shot, he would have been the best college player of the past decade.

As it is, I think TJ Ford vs Kevin Durant is a better question than TJ vs DJ, although it's harder to compare the different positions.

I'd take T.J. but I disagree with the 'not even close' mantra. It's easy to exaggerate the talents of heroes from the past and minimize deficiencies. Having said that, T.J. remains my all-time favorite guard and would be my starting point guard on the all-time Texas team. DJ might end up 2nd but J. Moore was tough.

College TJ >>> College DJ

But because of TJ's unfortunate spinal injuries, I see DJ having a much more productive NBA career.

DJ's Nash-like midrange game is sick and unstoppable. That will serve him well in the big leagues.

What's scary is that group of players never adjusted to TJ to the point where his talent was maximized. His entire frosh year was TJ spinning like a top into the lane and nailing teammates in the mouth with laser beam passes. If only Owens had not gotten hurt...
