August get together

Since our usual sponsors are heading to Europe this August and won't be able to host their yearly get together, anyone interested in meeting at a restuarant or having a potluck cookout at an Austin park instead?

Won't be as nice but it would be good to get something going to talk Tx WBB.

I would like to attend as well depending on the time. I can't do it the weekend of Friday (8/19) thru Sunday (8/21). Also, I work late on most Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

come on Seattle, you don't want to come down and regal us with your "glass half empty" lines?

Gonna miss a captive audience.

We got a couple of weeks to think about this-the later the date, the longer we got.

Well, the w/e dates are as follows
Sat-Sun:
6-7
13-14
20-21
27-28

Choices are:
Restaurant
Potluck at a park(suggestions?)

At this point, I’m open to any weekend and don’t really care about the place-restaurant or park. I can do either. I will go with the majority vote.

True, the 27th or 28th sounds good to me. I will be out of town Aug. 6 and 7. But I am available any other weekend in August.

so far, results are as follows:

Well, the w/e dates are as follows
Sat-Sun:
6-7--0
13-14--0
20-21--0
27-28--3

Choices are:
Restaurant--Cover 3
Potluck at a park(suggestions?)--0

I vote Cover 3 as it is likely to be as hot as HELL the end of August (not that it isn't now though

),

Cover 3 will be really noisy with all of the TVs going.

Has anyone considered going back to County Line Barbecue? They have been really great to us in the past.

a couple of things to consider:
*this is NOT going to be like the regular August get together-all costs will be borne by each person
*this is just going to be some people to talk about TX WBB in particular and WBB in general, very unlikely that there will the number that shows up for the regular meeting.
* and, lastly, all I'm doing is seeing if anyone wants to meet, when and where. I'm not going to put much time into this other than maybe calling Cover 3 or wherever for a reservation for however many express an interest in attending.

Babhorn, completely understood! I'm for anywhere we can visit about basketball for a while. Location doesn't matter at all - but I agree that I don't want to go anyplace too noisy. I don't remember Cover3 being that noisy, but it probably was with all the TV's going.

County Line would be fine with me. In fact, any restaurant is fine with me. Thank you for organizing this, BabHorn!

As of 07/25, the results are as follows:

Sat-Sun:
6-7--0
13-14--0
20-21--0
27-28--3

Choices are:
Restaurant—
Cover 3
County Line
Potluck at a park(suggestions?)—0

Open to majority decision: 2

If you want a fairly quiet place up north, I have been to Newk’s at the Arboretum. Sandwiches, soups, salads, pizza and fantastic cakes. They also have an area that we can congregate in as long as we are not there during the lunch rush-found this out when I was looking at places for our August office lunch. I don’t know what Cover 3 is like for conversation. County Line also is pretty full and noisy when you don’t reserve a room.

Right now, though, it does look like County Line is the place unless things change by next weekend. And the last weekend of August is the date, say Saturday. I will call next weekend and find out if we need to reservations for a small (less than ten) group.

Another thing to look at is the time: will we stay with 6pm? A couple of hours earlier?

Right now, we are looking at five fairly firm commitments to show up, not really a big group unless some show up unexpectedly. I will send a request to the coaching staff to see if they are able to come but I don’t really expect them to show up. I'm guessing they will be busy with recruiting and settling in the players' routine at the start of school.

Newk's would be fine with me. County Line is ok too if that's what people want, but if it's busy it will be noisy.

27th/28th is a maybe, 13th is out, the rest I can probably make. If Cover 3 is that relatively new place on Anderson Lane between Burnet and Mopac, please let's not go there.

County Line is OK, but it will be busy and noisy on a Saturday. I'm fine with Newks. Also Mangia 12001 N. Burnet road is never busy or noisy - but of course the menu is limited to pizza, salads, lasagna and the like.

I vote for County Line, last weekend in August...if we make it a later lunch thing, it will not be busy...like 3 or 4 pm??

okay, let's get together Saturday the 27th at 6 pm at Newks at the Arboretum.

Right now, it looks like between 6-8 people if everyone shows up.

I will send an email to the coaches after they come back from their Europe trip to see if any can come by. I think that's a dead period as far as recruiting.

I will go by again this Saturday but what I was told was that they didn't normally reserve tables but that it was pretty quiet after lunch so usually not a problem in pulling together several tables.

Regretfully, I am not going to be able to make it. I was looking forward to meeting everyone, but I overcommitted on my tennis schedule and now have to play a ladder match that evening.
