Augie

I have not seen a worse coaching job than the one that Augie has given this year. He has been terrible. If our players were playing good enough to win I do not believe that he could lead us anywhere in the post season. After watching tonights game it seems that we kept the wrong coach. I wish this team good luck because they not only have to play the opponent they also have to make up for poor coaching.

I don't know where to start. Are we having a bad year, yes. Will it get better, we all hope. Augie did not give up more errors this year than all of last. Coaching will get a player there, but the players have to do their job too. Lastly, ironically number1hornfan, Augie was more victories than any other college baseball coach, but hey your an internet coach with obviously more experience. Hope your knees don't buckle to bad jumping off the wagon.

Go horns, lets get 2 out of 3!

i think everyone can agree, this is the first year where we have questioned augie time in and time out. this hasn't been an isolated incident. it just makes you scratch your head. i believe augie outthought himself tonight. forget the lefty righty matchup for bringing pai in, let cam make contact and win that game...period.

I've come up with the name for a new affliction "Augieheimers". He really does appear to be out-thinking himself this year.

I think he'll be fine, but his decision making is not what it used to be. At least right now.

Ya. What happened is that the winningest coach in NCAA history has gone numb on us. Probably has his rule book in braille. I bet people are stealing his signs too with all that involuntary hand shaking going on.

Come on guys this is the best coach in the college game. He had beaten Frank 7 straight times. So I say give the man his due, and it really all boils down to the kids making plays.

"Number1HornsFan" means as much as the coffee mug I am drinking out of that proclaims to the world I am in fact the greatest dad ever. Difference being, my kids were correct. Just how many coaches have you analyzed. Just remember, before the Augie came to Texas he kicked *** across three decades, winning more titles than Gus, and resurrected one of the top 3 all time programs in college baseball. Bad year yes, worst coaching effort ever, get a life.

Warrior...under these circumstances that has to be about the most absurd statement ever.

He's been here long enough to have recruited all lf these kids. it isn't like he inherited them.

Most of the upperclassmen have regressed in their performance since their earlier years here...so they aren't developing as well.

The transfers we've taken have shown why they are transfers.

We lay down *** kicking after *** kicking like we like it.

The same players make the same mistakes and we keep sending them to the same spot in the field.

The pitching staff as a whole is a mess...so who hired the pitching coach?

This whole thing is his mess...and yes, as head coach it is his fault.

I'm glad we are finally doing something to shake it up some...but it is probably too late for this season.

Do I want a new coach for next season?....HELL NO! I think Augie is the best there is...but he got complacent. This is his shitburger to eat, and after he does, hopefully he'll get the right people, players and coaches, around him for next year to get things going.

But for god's sake, don't make yourself look like Baghdad Bob claiming the infidels are on the run as U.S. tanks roll toward you in the background.

It is not absurd. Augie's track record speaks for itself. Poor defense and lack of quality pitching is a killer in baseball. Cannot win every year and even the best programs like UT have off years. Ripping the Head Coach when a team has a bad year is not the answer.

Budhorn, we seldom have " senior " leadership..... college players with the ability to lead are gone at the end of their junior year. Show me a Senior starter and I'll show you a guy who is more than likely no where near the best player on the team ( ability is a normal and usual prerequisite for leadership.)

Forget senior leadership. This team has NO leadership beyond Travis Tucker. And Chance Ruffin, apparently. That's part of the problem. Michael Torres said in his Statesman interview that no one on the team talks about his errors. Why not? Why aren't they holding each other accountable for their mistakes? That's what disappoints me about Danks, Russell, and Clark. Those guys have been around for a long time, and yet a 2nd year transfer and a freshman are the ones who have had to step up and say "this isn't good enough."

My only issue with Augie is that I think he has not handled the move to the condensed scheduled very well. He likes to complain about it, but I don't see any real effort on his part to help the players deal with it (i.e. constantly shuffling them around in the lineup, playing a different left-fielder every game, still jacking with the pitching rotation in late April).

There has to be some consistency and a chance for the starting 9 to develop a chemistry and learn how to play with each other, especially when they only get one day a week to practice, two if they're lucky.

It's been my understanding that Augie has been very hands-off on recruiting since at least 2004. It's been in Harmon's hands, whose attitude seems to be "We're Texas. . . ." It may be worth examining his contributions as well as Skip and Augie's.

Something has gotta give.

I think there certainly needs to be an evaluation of Skip Johnson's contributions. I don't think the decision to bring him here was made lightly, and I realize this year presented an especially difficult challenge, when you combine the condensed schedule with all the new arms and the loss of experienced arms like James Russell, Adrian Alaniz, Joseph Krebs, etc. But his decision-making ... everything from who he puts in to the timing of his changes ... has been questionable at best.

There is almost the feeling that Augie has become more of an ornament than anything else with this team, at least this season. Then you hear someone like Huston Street claim that Augie is a baseball genius, and you start to wonder whether or not it's a lack of talent. And if it's a lack of talent, why? There is no excuse for a program like this one to not have as much or more talent than anyone else in the country.

Hopefully the improved facilities will prove to be worth the time, money, and effort required to get them, as far as recruiting is concerned. And hopefully the NCAA either goes back to the normal schedule next year or Augie figures out how to play within the system, rather than trying his best to prove that it doesn't work, which seems to be his m.o. this year.
