Documentary by Richard Linklater about Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido. I have to admit, this is my kind of coach. Strong language.

How many gang fights do you think Augie has been in? Gang warfare is pretty rampant at Sullivans or JBlacks i hear.
I'm not sure I would have been too motivated by that little nugget of wisdom.

Not so fast. I know some people his age that grew up on CA and they said it happened all the time. No guns, but plenty of chains, bats, and knives.

Does anyone remember how the rest of the season went after that lockroom ' motivation' speech?

I'm not saying it's not funny now. it's freaking hilarious.

I don't think he was trying to be humorous at the time.

I'm just saying it wouldnt have done much to motivate me as an athlete.

I agree pike. I recall playing hoops growing up in Austin, and my high school coach was livid we were down to Taylor at halftime, to whom we had no business being down. Taylor's mascot is (or at least was) the Ducks. Coach went into a tirade at the break in the locker room, much like Augie's, that ended with him making fun of us for losing to the Ducks, where he proceeded to "quack" for 15-20 seconds. He was not trying to be funny, but we all had to suppress laughter, and to this day, we still talk about it.
