I just bought one a couple of weeks ago. I have a 911 and needed to pick up something I could use to transport my 4 month old son at times. I bought the absolute stripped down version. I got the 2.0, not quattro or anything. The only option it has is the s-line package which gets you leather, decent rims, cvt tranny with paddles, and maybe a few other things. Anyway, it serves its puropose well so far. It gets really good mileage, I think it looks pretty good, it is roomy enough to carry me and all the gear a 4 month old needs. Granted I have only had mine a week so I cannot rally give you any insight as to how reliable it will be, etc. I can say it is quiet, comfortable, gets good mileage, and the version I bought was fairly inexpensive (relatively speaking). I am sure there will be the typical German car bashers along shortly to tell you to buyt the Camry with the Lexus badge on it.
Bought one a year ago. It is a 2.0 T with Quattro. No problems so far. Decent gas mileage (around 22-25) and has a roomy trunk. The Quattro really is nice on slick roads. Mine came with the Bluetooth which I really like since it allows me to use my cell phone handsfree.
I have owned two Audis- a '94 90CS, and a '96 A6Q. Both cars were wonderful up to 100K miles, and horrible thereafter. Every repair or maintenance item was expensive (lots of labor hours to work on). In short, I loved them the first 100K miles and learned to hate them afterwards.
If you lease, absolutely go for it. If you buy, be alert as they age.
i had a 1998 A4. it was amzaing until the 3 yr mark when my warranty ran out. it cost me (Dad, really) thousands of dollars in repairs. The timing belt snapped at about 45,000 miles, breaking all of the valves. I was happy to give it up.
That being said, I think the new ones are a LOT better. THe 98s were a particularly bad year for Audi, from what I've heard.
