Attic Access Insulator

Does anyone have experience with these? Do they work?

The hottest area in our house is the hallway with the attic door in the ceiling. You can feel the warm air coming out of the cracks of the attic access door. Our thermastat is right there too. I feel like this makes the entire side of the house around this area much warmer than the rest and it probably makes our thermastat run more because of it.

Would this insulation tent be a good solution for this?

Do you have a sub category on their site? I can't find it with a keyword search.

Your link is bad, but I thik that you are talking about something to insulate your attic access stairs. I bought something a while back that seems to help. Here is a link to it.

OK, I did put the link under "email" but I should have fixed it. Sorry about that.

wolfman, so I just need to make sure and buy one that fits my entire attic door? I don't really see the dimensions on your link, just the weight.

From the descriptions link on the main page:

Fits a standard attic access opening
Fitz-It Dimensions:
(L) 57" x (W) 29" x (H) 10"

Unless you have an odd-sized attic opening you will prob be OK, but measure to be sure. The trick with these things is being sure that the attic surface around the stairs is even so that this thing can sit flush against it. You may need to add some framing around the opening in the attic to achieve that. Also, you probably can build something similar to this out of insulation board too. I bought this thing because it was chaep and pretty easy to assemble. Overall Im pretty happy with it.

It is a 50 year old house so there are plenty of things odd about it so i'll measure. The previous owner remodeled it and added some framing so that this would fit flush. Thanks for the help.

After looking @ their image, I will bet you could make the same thing with some Luan & 1x4's; use the mylar coated bubble wrap as your insulation.

My guess is about 3 hours to make it & install, $ 50.00 or less in parts.

I like the idea of it, though. Granted, @ that expense there are a LOT of other areas I'd look to improve my attic space insulation (i.e. the same bubble wrap stuff under the roof deck / stapled between the rafters.
