ATT 3G microcell

Anyone else get one of these...? My neighborhood has crappy cell service across all carriers. Since the purchase, I've had some issues with the microcell losing the signal from my wireless router (d-link). AT&T tech people are stumped right now.

Has anyone encountered similar issues and have you found a fix...?

I thought the way AT&T priced it was a rip-off, but I took the route of least rip-offness by paying $150 for the tower thinking their unlimited minutes plan was a serious ruse. Now comes this....

More bars in more rooms of your house....that's the AT&T way

If you have a wireless router, your phone will use that network for the data. There's no reason for it to use the Microcell "3G" when there's 802.11 available.

As far as the Microcell losing the signal from the router goes, is there any way to hardwire them? Taking out a wireless hop would seem like a good idea.

All the household phone have unlimited data plans so the issue with data minutes will only come into play if I go to lower cost "metered minutes". But you're right...all the phones have wifi so connecting to the home wireless is the way to go.

As for hardwiring to the cable modem.....the modem only has one ethernet connection. I'll look and see if there is a splitter.

I have also found that sometimes wireless equipment just doesn't work that well with some devices. I upgraded an 8 year old Linksys earlier this year and that cleared up a lot of issues for me.

Good luck sorting it out.
