Athlon Sports: Texas # 11

This, to me, is actually good news. Keep expectations low, let the team, espcially the defense, work out their kinks by the CU game, and then see what happens.

Burnt orange colored glasses or not, I'm really excited about this team for this year and most certainly for the next 4 to 5. So let these yankees who have never played the game continue to put Texas down in the rankings and keep expectations low. I like it.

i agree...i am cool with non-top 10 expectations and a chance to get things going with our defense.
 
What's the other team besides 0u and overranked state u, in the top three I wonder. I thought UGA was the media darling this year.
 
I think Georgia is a legit "media darling"...they are stacked and their defense is ungodly.

My expectations haven't been lower for our team in the last 6 years.

I will be pleasantly surprised if we finish 11.

Our defense is going to have to win our games for us this year.

If Muchshamp and these recruits we have been bringing in live up to their billing, I don't see a problem....but we have no play makers on offense, unless they get Chiles on the field some how.
 
i'm with you, tomterrific - i'm pretty scared about this year. i won't be surprised if we only win 8. our defense wil really need to be spectacular to do any better, imo.
 
i think 11 is still too high.

we are young, unproven, or thin in too many important positions... pretty much everything except QB and WR.
 
i agree with most everybody that it is probably best to keep our expectations rather low this year.

if we finish in the top ten this year i will do backflips.
 
IMO, this is a 12 to 15 ranked, 2 to 3 loss team w/out JC. I would be very pleased with a 12th place finish.

Athlon is always out first, usually has pretty good photos and marginal text on teams. But, picking us at #11 is probably about right at this point... might even be a couple of spots high.
 
As of right now, with all of our question marks all over the field, 11 is too high. I'd have us more around 15-16 until we prove otherwise.
 
WOW...reading some of the post on here is depressing. If I didn't know any better, i'd think we'd have problems with Rice. Any who, at least the folks at OrangeBlood think we will be OK.
 
Clemson is always ranked high pre-season..it is always, this is bowdens year bs and they will suck as usual. im optomistic this year, i think we are going to surprise some people this season and make it to a bcs game regardless of whether we win the conference. i think it will be ou and us.
 
i think kansas and missouri were 1 hit wonders last year and on nobody's radar until late in the season. they won't have that luxery this year, they will fold like paper tigers. TX and OU will both be solid next year. i think both teams make 11 wins.
 
Being ranked #11 will only hurt us if three teams all finish undefeated or if only three teams all end up with one loss, and if we are one of those three teams, and if the other two both started out in the top 10.

I'd rather be underrated than start out the year too high just for being Texas - like in 2000 when we were coming off a 9-5 finish, #23, and 3 straight losses, but were like #6 in the preseason polls.
