Athletic Dept cutting jobs

If Herman and Smart had "donated" $1 million of the wealth they have extracted from their employment at The University of Texas a lot of jobs could have been saved.

This article:

Forty Acres Insider: Sept. 1 - University of Texas Athletics

Makes it sound like the coaches have taken a voluntary pay cut:

"The full-time personnel action includes the following: beginning September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2021, 26 contracted coaches and administrators voluntarily agreed to take temporary salary reductions. Beginning October 16, 2020 through August 31, 2021, 273 staff members will receive temporary salary reductions, and 11 staff members will be temporarily furloughed with benefits. Temporary salary reductions are based on a marginal rate approach in the following manner: the first $50,000 of an employee's salary will be reduced by 2.5%, the next $50,001 to $100,000 is reduced by 10% and any amount above $100,001 is reduced by 15%".

Now it doesn't list Heman and the basketball coach by name, but you would think they would have to be included in this. Would be a tenuous position to be the two highest paid employees on campus and not take a pay cut when everyone else is.

Pay reduction for Heman would be about 875 grand.

The Texas Athletic department takes in a lot of money, but like most institutions spends most or all of it every year. It probably doesn't have much of a rainy day fund, so any reduction in income has to be offset with spending reductions.

To some extent it has to be like that - people aren't going to donate so that you can build up your bank account - they want their money to go towards stadiums or fields or such.
