When are these two restaurants returning? They were two of my favorite lunch spots and have been gone too long. Are either coming back?

Athenian is supposed to open up at 8th and Brazos, but hasn't yet. Not sure what's up.

Doesn't look like Bert's is going to reopen on MLK. Just the Far West store.

Athenian is still closed AFAIK. In the meantime, if you are interested in a some good, authentic Greek food, you should give El Greco down on 31st street a shot. They are right next door to the new Mangia location across from Changos. The opening is today, and they are still working out some of the kinks, but I was able to grab a meal at their soft opening last week and everything I tried was real good. Moussaka, Pastiscio, Beeftekee, Souvlakia as well as the ubiqutious Gyro. The Mezzes and dips were pretty good too. Prices range from about $8-15 for generous entrees.

Here is a link to the menu.

Thanks Anastasis. I'll give it a try. I've been going to Marakesh on Congress, which is okay (great hummus), but I loved Athenian.

i read that athenian is opening back up in the bulding at 6th & congress, but not til april, i think, of '08. bummer. i loved that place.

i hear tino's is pretty good but i haven't tried it yet.

maybe i'm not in the loop on greek food, but Milto's is pretty ******* kick ***. Their souvlaki is the bomb. As for Bert's, man... I hope that MLK reopens. I hate ******* north Austin.

I got some carry-out at Bert's Far West the other night, and the guy at the counter said they weren't going to re-open their campus location.

milto's is really good. i think they have the best gyro in town and their greek salad is awesome. their lone star pizza is great too.

i tried tino's this week. maybe it was an off day, but the meat was way too salty -- overpowering. and counting tzatziki sauce as a "side" on a combo plate seems kind of weak. but super cheap for the amount of food you get though, i'll try it again. i miss athenian. i miss ted's too.

bert's not opening back up on mlk is bad news

i was in the one american center last week and tried to scope out where it would go in there and wasnt sure, but i'll be glad to have it back

i've tried the the el greco place someone reccomended above twice lately and its really good. a little more expensive, but you get plenty of food and they had some more upscale items on the menu compared to athenian or tinos

and the greek owner was there manning the register with his mother overseeing the kitchen

kind of working out the kinks on service, though, i saw a table of 6 get their entrees brought out at all different times
