at what price point of gas does having a commuter horse make sense? Most likely this use will only be for work but you could expand the uses with a buggy for shopping and picking kids from school etc. All this depends on the good graces of the homeowners association since the horse will be kept in the backyard.

anyone familiar with the annual costs of maintaining a horse ? Also need to know the purchase cost. TTL?

You'll know.

Owning a horse only makes sense when you sell the horse. That is the best day in a horse owner's life. (Unless he's Big Brown), and even then..........can you imagine how much he will sell for?? The best day in the owner's life.

We own about 4 horses. They're not that expensive. Costs about 1,000$ to buy a big one. Plus food a day. Hope this helps

I think it would be pretty awesome if people started riding horses on I35. During rush hours it's not like they would slow anybody done anyway...

I guess you haven't seen the price of hay lately.

My mom had been whining to my dad about getting a horse for about 30 years. He finally broke down a couple of years ago and found out it was not a cheap endeavor. She grew tired of the thing after a year and they sold it.

They poop a lot. Also, they can't just eat grass like a cow or sheep. Also, they don't exactly make alarm systems or lo-jacks for horses. The good news is that if someone steals it, you may still be able to get them the death penalty in Texas.
