ASU Postseason Ban?

Just curious but I thought they were on probation this year for the postseason? Did they appeal and win with the NCAA?

It's my understanding that they were allowed to participate in postseason this year while they're appealing...

We start their ban after this weekend!

They self imposed sanctions. Then they appealed the sanctions. They are waiting for the NCAA to respond to the appeal. They are eligible until that ruling.

Basically, they fired Murphy who said what he did was not a big deal.

Then they said what they did was not a big deal.

What they did was not a big deal in of itself. They've had problems in other programs at the school. See also Tennessee.

So let me get this straight as an NCAA institution cheating is impossible due to the transparent governing process within the NCAA.

ASU caught the coach in violation of the rules; fired him; and declared successful in-house sanctions. The NCAA then stepped in; said not enough; and added to the sanctions. ASU then said screw you to the NCAA and appealed after acknowledging the wrong doing. So despite acknowledging the wrong doing they are competing on a technicality knowing that even if they win the NC, it could be taken away from them when they lose the appeal (which they will do)?

What a system! Next you will be telling me that ou has instituted academic standards and aggy has sworn off sheep.

I like Murphy a lot. So I will disclose that first and you should judge my remarks accordingly.

Murphy violated rules (some of which are not even rules any more), and compounded it with sloppy record keeping.

I would say his infractions were less than say a volunteer coach who had a job at beer-factory and never showed, just pocketed the money. I would also say that a lot of D1 schools have had similar issues.

The big issue is the administration already had problems with other programs at the school (hello death penalty/lack of institutional control) and Murphy is a bit of a jackass not helping himself with the people who should have been there to protect him.

I *believe* any punishment will be for things that happened in 2007-2009 (Murphy era) and possibly a ban on the post season next year (although I doubt that will happen) not this year.

I also believe that the stormcloud cost ASU a national seed. I recognize I may be full of **** on that one..

What Texas sanctions are you speaking of??? I am aware ASU has pending sanctions but what are you talking about with Texas and its recent sanctions?
