Not sure what to think about this move. They didn't give up much, and they get a draft pick if Wolf doesn't re-sign. But at the same time, it's not really going to do any good this season.

It sounds like the Stros just got Woody Williams back.

On another note, McClane has never had to build a baseball team from the ground up. He keeps putting bandaids on this team to try and stop the bleeding.

Its time to get some draft picks or some 1st class pitching prospects through trades and rebuild this team.

Astros should be sellers, not buyers at this stage of the game.

They need to restock the farm system. Not pick up over 30 year old pitchers.

Hook em

Also, away from pitcher friendly Petco, Wolf has had a rough go of things.

1-6 and a 6+ ERA.

The Astros are also done visiting Petco too. At least Wade knows ths guy won't attack him. So that's a plus.

Hopefully we get a pick when he walks and begin the long chore of stocking up.

It's obvious this team was one minor puzzle piece away from running the table and hiding from the talentless Cubs & Brewers. This moves rivals the Randy Johnson & Carlos Beltran deals and should instigate Drayton to ask the season ticket-holders for a deposit on play-off tickets. Or is Ed Wade just trying to surround himself with players he knows won't try to choke him?

The only excitement this trade should provide is how it effects the SRO area next to the Crawford Boxes. Will the Wolfpack try to join forces with the Caballitos (sp?) and Pumas?

As incompetent as the Astros have looked recently, Drayton might ask the Wolfpack, Caballitos, and Pumas to all move behind home plate so it looks like we have fans.

Wolf absolutely sucks.

..but after I watched that listless performance vs. the Pirates on Tues night (for 3 innings), who gives a ****.

The team certainly doesn't.

Finally!!! This is the missing piece of the puzzle they needed. I'm now excited about the rest of the season, and ready to partake of the brick red and sand Kool-Aid again.

No, really. Its time to make some trades for some young talent and call this season and the next rebuilding years. Everyone should be fair game for trade except Berkman.

It's a 2009 move, really. If the Astros can sign Ben Sheets in the offseason, then Wolf can be behind Oswalt, Sheets and Wandy as a #4 starter, which is basically what Wolf is now with an ERA just below 5. Without Wolf, the Astros are dependent on Chris Sampson, Runlevys Hernandez, Jack Cassel and god knows who else to try to fill the role.

Wolf isn't a savior by any means, and the Astros still suck if they don't sign a bigtime pitcher for next season. Heck, if they sign Sheets they may barely be above .500, but at least it'd be a step in the right direction (Tejada is gone after '09, which will open up cash for another pitcher). But paying Wolf $4MM for '09 is less of a risk than hoping someone from Round Rock or Corpus is ready to step up and be a solid starter.

Obviously the Astros need to develop their farm system, but will anyone be ready to go before 2010?
