Put me down on the list for that Teagarden - Bucholz trade. Varitek is at the end of his offensive usefulness, and other than his no-hitter, Bucholz has been a head case with a easily-hitable swooping curveball. He'd make the Rangers a nice 4th starter. Go Sox!
Sheets is a tough gamble because of the injuries. It's easier for position players to produce over the course of 100-120 games with injuries than it is for a pitcher to miss 7+ starts and still help out the team. Sheets would probably be welcomed at first, but his ERA would take an eventual hit (entire AL vs. the NL Central? No brainer).
I think baseball teams are going to be using a lot of red ink next year. Astros are holding the line on ticket prices but I imagine they want to move money because they already know they are going to be deep in the hole because of the economy. Problem is, everyone else is in the same position.
I think the Rangers should offer Sheets something like 3/45 and maybe pick up a reliever. I'm sure we'll move a catcher at some point as well. Outside of that, stand pat. The talent is in the organization, don't mess with it.
