Astros' Chacon jumps GM

Just saw it as the lead story on Baseball Tonight. Chacon is done.

Eric Young almost tried to justify Chacon doing it because he passed up on several other opportunities so that he could come here and be a starter. ESPN, if you need to show diversity on your staff can you at least go get someone that is color-blind and/or rational . . . like Harold Reynolds?
 
If what Chacon says about Ed Wade is true, thats pretty unprofessional and unbecoming of a GM. To call out a player in the dining hall in the middle of his meal is uncalled for. A simple, 'Shawn, I need to see you in my office as soon as you're done eating,' would have sufficed just fine. Not to defend Chacon's actions, but there might be a little bit more to the story.
 
the good news is that due to mlb guaranteed contracts, shawn will be paid his entire contract no matter what. so his kids won't starve.
 
This season is a complete disaster!! The next several years look bleak and that is unfortunate when you have a talent like Berkman playing for 3rd or fourth place instead of a pennant like just a few short years ago.
 
There is no way we will ever hear the entire story. There is also no way that this escalated that far in that conversation. There has to be some back story.

Wade probably deserved it to some degree, but for Chacon to do that was pretty stupid because there is no way he was completely in the right either. Bad, bad situation.
 
Chacon will go, and rightfully so. Wade, however, appears to be foul-mouthed and abusive.

I've read that Roy Oswalt has questioned the competence of Cecil Cooper - what are the details of that? Anybody know?
 
It starts at the top, where few if any players trust McLane. He is finally running out of classy players, who just walk away. Now he has a group of Billy Wagners, who will stand up and tell it like it is. McLane won't tolerate that.

Cooper is a nice guy, but may be in over his head - not from baseball but from politics. Too much drama in that organization.

Chacon will get at least one more MLB start. The people of Philadelphia will line up 20 deep to cheer him for popping Wade. Don't be surprised if Chacon is given the key to the city and honored on the steps of city hall in Philadelphia.

Wade has a reputation and it ain't good. I'm not defending Chacon because I wasn't there and don't know the facts. I do, however, know that Wade gets ZERO respect in Philadelphia and other parts of MLB.

"Uncle" Drayton seems to value character and all the other fine attributes, so hasn't he put himself in a corner with Ed Wade being the GM making himself open to charges of hypocricy?

And why have the Astros seemingly (if not actually) had some inept gm's lately? Tim Purpura and now Ed Wade? Is it because McLane runs off the good ones?
 
Yeah, let's believe the guy who did the choke slamming and the shittiest writer the chronicle has. Neither one has an agenda.
 
For $2mil/year, I would go to the bosses' office when asked. How sad; this used to be a good clubhouse, if not a great team. Would someone with a clue please buy the Astros.
 
If Ed Wade signs another gas-can like Chacon for $2mm, Drayton should raffle off the right to choke him. Chacon has a career record of 45-61 with an ERA of 4.99. This year's numbers (2-3 w/5.04) are right where they should be. To quote the Nutty Professor . . . "he is who we thought he was."

Now with that said, Chacon should have STFU, stayed in the shadows and collected a paycheck. Latrell Sprewell found work after choking PJ because he had some game. Chacon - not so much.

If my job performance was as bad as Chacon's, i would have been laying low and not giving anyone any excuse to demote me or fire me.
 
I don't care -- when your boss asks you to come to his office, you do it and you deal with it, like it or not. Chacon is an asshat with obviously no respect for authority. He wasn't that great anyway and he just pissed away any opportunity of him getting picked up.
