Asti: Review

I tried to post a review of this place on Citysearch, and they sent me an email saying it was not accepted - no reason, no copy of it, nothing - I think someone from Asti didn't like what it said (no surprise there)...
So, I am posting here in hopes that someone will read this.
I had been to Asti before and thought it was okay - cool decor, good location, okay food and service. This was when it had first opened, so I decided I would give it another chance this past weekend.
Well. I started with a mixed greens salad. Not bad, until I moved a piece of lettuce and found a huge beetle crawling around my plate amongst the lettuce and dressing.

I showed the waitress, who took my salad but did not offer to bring me a new one or anything. Then, the guy who I assume must be the manager, came to my table, said, "I'm sorry about that. You won't have to pay for your dinner," and then turned to my friend and said in the snootiest voice, "But you WILL have to pay for yours," as if we had planned to come to Asti for a free meal or didn't plan on actually paying!
My entree arrived - chicken with goat cheese and eggplant. It was lukewarm, and we sat for 5 full minutes before getting tableware with which to eat our entrees. The service was atrocious from then on, like they were offended that I had complained about a bug in my food, or like they shouldn't bother with good service since I wouldn't be paying for my meal anyway.
It was probably the worst dining experience I have ever had in Austin. I know that sometimes bugs fly into the food or whatever, and even though I was disgusted I tried not to let it ruin my evening, but being treated poorly by the waitstaff and "manager" was what really angered me. I will never go back - I have had much better service and MUCH better food at Hyde Park Grill next door.

TenaciousT, this is shocking to me! My husband and I love Asti; it's one of our favorites in town. We've probably eaten there about 20 times. The food is great and the waitstaff has been consistently knowledgeable and friendly.

The owner's name is Emmett Fox if you want to send a complaint to him. But it sounds like you have no wish to ever return. I'm really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience.

DH - I had never heard that before, but if so they really need to transfer some of the great staff and class from HPBG over to Asti.

1990- I'm glad that you have had good experiences there, because it does seem like it could be a cool place. I generally do not complain about service and stuff at restaurants and am not the type to even send back food that I don't like. This experience was so awful that I felt like I just had to say something, even if just to the three people who read this thread!

I would like to let the owner know about my experience - he should be aware of the way that my friend and I were treated.
