Ashley is averaging just over 3 blocks a game. She currently has 139 carrer blocks and 79 in her sophomore season. She has already shattered the sophomore block record of 66 by Ellen Bayer set in 1987-88. Projecting an average of 3 blocks a game for a minimum of seven more games, she will end up with 100 blocks. Of course, the more games the team plays in the Big 12 and NCAA, the more blocks she is likely to end up. She is averaging 3.16 bpg so that 3 bpg is a reasonable projection, imo. Those 100 blocks would leave her as the top shot blocker in a season. Ellen Bayer had 97 in the 1988-89 season. That also would put her at 160 career blocks, 4th behind Bayer’s 289 from 1986-1990. That would leave that career record within easy reach. She would need to average 65 blocks a season her last two years to break it.
We are privileged to be watching one of the best shot blockers, if not the best, in Texas history every time Ashley takes the court.
