Article: Texas already on Colorado Buffs Minds

I worry about all of the games, except Rice, because that's my nature. But all three Big XII North opponents this year are gonna be really interesting.

Think about it. The last time we played Colorado we all saw it, a 70-3 execution that might have been 98-3 if we'd kept our foot on the gas. Obviously they want revenge, and I think it's safe to say the talent gap between the teams is smaller this time around... plus Barnett was circling the drain going into that game, and everyone knew it, and I think CU's collapse partially reflected that.

And the last time we faced Missouri? 51-20, and frankly we were sloppy... that could have been worse as well. I daresay Mizzou has improved since then--they may not be as good as their hype, but that's going to be a very tough team coming into Austin...

Kansas is the one that worries me the most, though. I know last season was practically their best ever, so it's silly to expect that level of performance again. Statistically unlikely. But they had a lot of traits of very good teams: one of the best turnover margins, a good defense, a smart QB (from Austin, for god's sake), very few penalties.... basically they didn't do anything to beat themselves, and waited for the other team to screw up so they could capitalize. Teams like that will grind and grind you. Plus I am sure fatbutt Mangino wants revenge for the beatdown they got in 2005... where once again, if Texas had kept the foot on the gas, we're looking at 80 points, quite possibly. I think if we fall behind early to that team we are in a lot of trouble.

At the end of the 2005 season there is no way I'd have thought those guys would be three of the toughest opponents in 2008, but I think they are...

As someone mentioned, I'm glad the Buffs players aren't playing the "they-ran-the-score-up-on-us" card as motivation. Texas tried really, really hard NOT to score on them from about 6 minutes into the third quarter all the way to the end of the game. Colorado should have been running the ball into the line 3 times and punting for the second half (just like we were doing) to kill the clock. Instead, Barnett has his starting QB in the game dropping back to throw with 5 minutes left in the game. Idiotic.

The only time I've seen a team bend over backwards more than that in order to NOT run it up, was when the OU running back didn't even try to score on 4th and goal when they were up 77-0 on the aggies.

It's funny how things turn around. It seems like CU had our number forever, culminating in the B12 Championship game in 2001. I remember being so frustrated after watching us lose to them in '90 and '94 in close games at home, not to mention the grief of the 2001 game in Dallas; yet by the end of the 70-3 game I simply felt sorry for 'em. Anyway, they're motivated and that's definitely going to be a tough game.

I'm looking forward to going to that Kansas game this year, should be entertaining regardless. My guess is it will be a close game.

As for Colorado, I think that we win this one a little easier than folks are saying. I'd say 10-17 point differential. But thats essentially a blind and biased guess.

Duff, I think you're right. 2000 at KU was Simm's first start after Major was injured and unable to play. I recall a Roy Williams end around for a TD. That game was tight I think into the 2nd half.

We also had to struggle to beat them in 96 at Lawrence with Ricky helping out.

I think the funniest thing about the 2004 game was how the student section filled up in the 4th quarter after being about half full during most of the game. Great fans, huh?

I agree Tech and KU scare the hell out of me, but the Big 12 is dangerous water because any team can go off and have a good day. I do, however, hope we crush Darrell Scott.

F Colorado. They're where we were after losing so many to OU before 2005. The mojo is hard to shake off.

Making us the focus of their season can backfire terribly.

F Colorado.

didn't the d scott thing piss mack off too? here's to 80-3

By the time we get to KU.. they could already be pretty worn down.

On 10/11 they have Colorado at home.
10/18, they play at the Land Thieves
10/25 they have the Pirates at home
11/1 they have their rivalry game against KState at home
11/8 they travel to Nebraska.

By the time 11/15 comes around, they could very easily be.. 2 - 3 in those games and reeling.
