Article on Texas Pittman

Great article. It's going to be a very interesting season.

41% body fat down to 13%? Way to go Dex!!! That can't be easy when you're surrounded by teen and twenty something friends eating anything they want. I sure hope he's an unstoppable force this season.

That's phenomenal - I really hope this kid makes it at the next level, he's definitely worked as hard or harder than any player we've had here.

Great article. I've said it since the day after the Memphis loss. And, I'll keep saying it, the line up will be:

#5 = Pittman
#4 = Atchley
#3 = James
#2 = AJ
#1 = Mason/Balbay

Better use Pittman this year. The may well be his last year.

To temper some of the feelling that Pittman is going to be an early entry draft candidate after a season of dominating nightly, I offer a glimpse at what Barnes said (from ESPN's "Blue Ribbon" write up)

Essentially, Barnes said he sees Pittman being able to play in four minute stretches and showing in his senior season that he could play at the next level.

I really hope PIttman becomes a reliable force for Texas this year, but I still don't expect to see him this season 1) average over 20 minutes a game this season or 2) look like he is ready to handle an 82 game schedule of 48 minute games in the NBA. Of course, so much of the NBA draft is based on potential, I could see him being drafted after a decent season, but another year of conditioning would definitely improve his stock.

I believe this may be Pittman's last year for 2 reasons:

1. I'm a Pittman fan and believer. I don't buy this 'he can only play for 4 minutes' crap. I think this is they year he steps up and plays meaningful minutes for sustained periods. And, he can and will be a dominating force inside.

2. Assuming I'm correct on #1, the NBA drafts on potential, not readiness. There just aren't that many guys with Pittman's size, athletic ability, and good hands walking around. One he has demonstrated that he can stay in shape and play ball, the NBA will be interested.

I did say this 'may' be his last year b/c it is up to him if he wants to come back. But, I'll believe he'll have the realistic option to go by the end of this year.

Pittman playing in four minute stretches will be contributing meaningful minutes. Dude played only 6.8 minutes a game last year. Give him two four minute stretches a half, and you've played him 16 minutes. Start him for four minutes, give him four minutes off, play him four, give him four off, etc., you can have him on the floor for 24 minutes, if you use the half time to let him recharge.

I still don't see him averaging more than 20 minutes a game, and I see him playing his senior year unless he has a triple quantum leap in his conditioning and play.

Dex has unbelievable hands. They are huge. He catches the ball anytime it gets close to his hands. Not only helps with rebounding but makes it easy to pass to Dex. I am a very big fan of Dex.

I really, really hope that he is in great shape. Having said that, If Barnes says that Dex is in shape to play 4 minutes at a time, then Dex will probably play 4 minutes at a time.

As was mentioned previously, he can still get 24 minutes per game if he plays 3 4 minute stretches per half.

Somebody needs to tell Dex that if he pulls the skin off the fried chicken and then blots the remaining oil off the meat with a napkin, it's the same as baked. The meat does not absorb oil.

I am so looking forward to basketball season. Gosh, I remember when basketball at Texas was just something between football and baseball -- nothing special.

dex has a long way to go, but you have to be proud of him for getting this far. he is definitely a quality guy.
