Article on recruitment of DGB

Mack actually comes across well, he gets grief for how much he protects his players but it is noticed by parents and that matters. Sounds like the only reason Texas stayed in it as long as it did was Mack and the level of trust he engenders. Arky comes across real slimy.

Thanks. Cool read.
Mack is straight up class

That was a very interesting read of how the recruiter's styles are. Not surprising that Stoops and Co along with Ark bad mouthed other schools.

It's sad that the heisman is such a hyped award that a coach can use that as a recruiting tool. I'd take VY and Colt over their two heisman trophy QB's anytime.

Mack said at the Austin Longhorn Club today that Sally had pointed out that in their meeting with DGB on campus that he had said "distance" no less than four times.

And she told Mack right then that because of "distance" he wasn't going to land the kid.

Brilliant and perceptive lady, that Sally. But then you already knew that . . . .

So here's what I got from the article:
The Beckham's weren't too keen about having to pay for their other son and his friend's meals at VY's steakhouse and breakfast the next morning at the Omni. While they were impressed by "Picture man" Mack Brown and his upfront honesty, they were more impressed by the glitz and glimmer of skydivers, helicopters and standing ovations and welcoming signs at basketball games and free fried sushi for every meal. He mentioned that location was important so friends and family can come see HIM. Finally, while they downplayed the fact that Mizzou offered a scholly to the younger brother, freshman wide receiver Darnell, this had to be a huge factor in the parents eyes at least. So, I think the Mizzou staff went out of their way to make DGB feel like he'd be "the Man" if he came to Mizzou and he ate it up.

how about the comment about fans sitting down during a blowout at OU.

have to admit it made me think about DKR

If they haven't already, they should make Mack a tenured professor.

I like that he really put the effort in landing an OOS prospect even though he signed elsewhere.

As for DGB, I think he will be a 1st round pick barring any serious injuries when the dust settles. It will not be because of his all world talent but his character. I think he could also teach Darius White a few lessons in that department.

DGB will help Mizzou win some games for three or four years, and Mizzou isn't the suck, like another team headed to the SEC, but they're not better than middle of the pack, even playing in the weaker SEC East. DGB by himself isn't likely to make them a contender. That being said, given his family circumstances, Mizzou always had the advantage of location over everybody but arkie, and while their coach is no pillar of society, he's a slightly better person than Petrino and Stoops, or at least DGB's mom thought so.

The article was kind of enlightening, mainly because UT was in the hunt, and yep, Mack did come out looking good in it, surprising since Thayer Evans wrote it.

Isn't Thayer Evans the Sooner fan who wrote that putrid NYT piece (of ****) a few years ago about Mack and how we negative recruit? I remember something about a recruit saying he liked Bob Stoops' house and The article said Mack laughed and told the kid his house was bigger. Sounds just like Mack, huh? It was all about humble Stoops doing his job the right way and the out of control, gunslinger thing hat goes on at Texas.

If you're spending fifty bucks at the Omni for breakfast, you've been taken by the waitstaff. They're not cheap, but I've eaten there before, and came in a lot under fifty dollars.

I can't remember the recruit that the story Thater wrote about?

How has that recruit been for the $ooner$?
