Artest to Rockets

for bobby jackson and a 1st round pick and possibly some other players. getting artest without giving up battier is just amazing and, while he is crazy and could explode on you, makes it such a low risk, high reward move. that bonzi wells for bobby jackson trades was everything it was supposed to be.

steal. i'm just shocked the Kings couldn't get more. This helps during hte regular seaosn when we have to weather thru Yao or Tmac's injuries, and if those three, plus Barry, plus Battier, plus Landry, plus Scola can all get minutes, that's a pretty deep squad. Morey done good.

hopefully it was skip to my lou they gave up...they still need a solid point guard but the celtics proved you don't really need an all star at that position.

Bottom line is, Rockets needed to do this. It's put up or shut up time. TMac will be 30 next spring, Yao will be 29, Scola will be 29, Rafer will be over 30.

It's time. They had to take a risk. It may or may not work, but if all you're giving up is Jackson and a PTBNL, that's a deal you gotta take.

I agree. Good move. The Yao-T-Mac duo is running out of time. This adds another scoring punch on the floor. I think Ron will flourish in this offense. This all means nothing if either one of them continue to get hurt. If they are both healthy, the Rockets are one of the best teams in the league and they proved that by winning 20+ in a row ( I know that about half of those were without Yao). Those two have never played a full season together which scares me, but the time is now to do this trade.

btw - yahoo is reporting it is Greene.

This is a great move. Imagine the defense of Battier and Artest. Artest will bring the physical lock down and Battier will bring the technical perfection.

Further, Rafer will no longer be relied upon as the third scorer and can stick to what he knows best - running the offense. Despite what most think, I really believe that Rafer is great at running the point.... he's just not an offense player. However, with Artest, everyone gets better. Good move, Morey.

Greene is the PTBNL. I was hoping that was not the case, but I still like the deal. Greene has potential to be REALLY great, but so did Kwame Brown. Even if he turns out to be an all-star, he is several years away. Give me a lock down defender like Artest to go along with the defense of this team and a reliable 3rd scorer for the RIGHT NOW.

This makes Battier a much better player. He is now the 4th or 5th scorer on the team & that plays right into his game. I love this deal and I am shocked that we did not give up a single starter to make it happen.

I love this trade. Sure Artest is a combustible player, but Adelman has coached him before and had to have been consulted before the trigger was pulled. In addition to giving us 2 of the best defensive players, this is now an extremely tough team to match up with. Great trade.

Great trade. Rockets got a steal. I knew Jackson would be traded before the year was out since he had a large expiring contract. When I found out that it was indeed him and not someone like Battier, I was ecstatic. Losing Green isn't a big deal, IMO. He wasn't going to see any time this year, maybe not even next year.

Both teams got a good deal. Sacramento is obviously going to rebuild. Green is a good pick up for them. The first round pick next year is rather negligible, however, seeing how the Rockets should end up with another late, late first round pick. I am pumped!

Awesome news. I really think the Rockets should look into limiting Yao and T-mac's minutes during the regular season. Keep em healthy for the playoffs and you have a hell of a contender there.

And to think the Mavs could've had him for Josh Howard straight up. Oh well I enjoyed the last 9 years of the playoffs.

It's a great trade for the Rockets. There's always the downside with Artest that he's completely insane and you never know when he might lose it, but it's a risk worth taking when you haven't been able to make it out of the first round. The other downside is that Artest has turned into a bit of a chucker over the last couple of years. He might not be so inclined to jack so many bad shots on a better team, but it's something to watch. But all of that is worth the risk for how talented he is.

The west was brutal before and it got even tougher this off season.

Unbelievable trade for the Rockets. That team needed a tough guy leaders, and man, they have one now.

Idiotic trade by Sacramento. Expiring contracts (have I mentioned that I hate salary caps?) are only assets if you can attract free agents. A rebuilding team in one of the smallest, most boring NBA cities is not exactly going to be on the list of preferred destinations for quality free agents.

thing is that Artest is on a contract year and while he may be insane he knows that he loves money and going insane this season will lose him a lot of money. My bet is that he is a model citzen for at least a year while in Houston

Spurs fan here. I'm not too worried. Some of the talking heads have compared this to the Celtics putting together their "Big3. I doubt it.
I feel bad for Sacramento, because the rumors were they tried to trade him to LA for Odom, and to Dallas for Josh Howard. Both of those trades would have been better. Now I actually hope Houston knocks off LA and Dallas in the playoffs. Artest is actually a good defensive match-up against Odom and Dirk. He would probably be able to bully Ginobili.

Essentially, the Rockets got Artest for a bowl of grits. Now with Greene, maybe the grits has a rolex watch buried underneath, but still.

A steal of deal. If nothing else, it juices up the fall workouts.

The Rockets can't make a 'different' run at the playoffs without gutting the roster. This was adding a key piece to the final attempt with this roster. I applaud the move...

Damn, I thought for once I was going to get the scoop on everybody but you beat me to the link...

He's a thug (Artest) This article confirms

Both Yao >and< Artest need to shut up and play.

Once the Rockets begin pre-season practice (with Adelman's guidance), I think that's exactly what's going to happen.

With RA, Houston has become a legitimate NBA title contender. Simply getting out of the first round next season will not be enough. Props to Les Alexander for making a move that can bring another NBA crown to Houston.

This is a great move. Artest has $$$$ incentive to not be an asswipe this season. His next contract that he signs will be the biggest one he ever signs, potentially, given his age. If he's a player and not a "playa" he will make his money.
