Arpaio contempt charge

Saw an article this AM that the DOJ is charging Sheriff Joe with criminal contempt over his enforcement practices.

This seems to be really odd timing out of the DOJ since it seems to play INTO the hands of Trump given the fact that it illustrates that the current administration is soft on immigration-related issues and enforcement. It seems like their timing would have been better to have waited until AFTER the election cycle instead of putting a hot button issue out there...

I thought I read where Arpaio is up for re-election. Politically, charging him now could have benefits to his opponent, right?

Nobody is stopping him from enforcing the law it's the WAY he's choosing to enforce the law that has resulted in the criminal contempt of court accusation. I thought y'all cared about following the law, or is it only laws you support?

I don't think that's their priority. I think it's too late to convince anyone that the Administration or that Hillary isn't soft on immigration and enforcement. I think the real purpose is to bring Arpaio and his actions into the news in hopes that it pisses off and motivates Hispanics in Maricopa County to turn out and possibly help HRC carry Arizona.

In theory, but there are thousands of them registered to vote. Virginia alone found over a 1,000 foreign nationals on their voting roles.

The Left doesn't believe in borders. Their long term goal is to let all the folks living in America vote, legal or not, and with minimum ID requirements. The illegals are citizens of the world and that's good enough for George Soros and the rest of the Left.

I don't think the DOJ had much choice. The charges were recommended by the sitting Federal District Judge, G. Murray Snow. ( a Bush appointee, since that seems to matter to so many people.) I think Arpaio sealed his own fate when he had the Judge's wife investigated. I don't think that it is reasonable to try to turn this into an Obama thing. Arpaio decided to tangle with a Federal District Judge to make his political points. Probably not wise. The articles seem to indicate that he is entitled to a jury trial in a criminal contempt matter.
