Armenia vs Azerbaijan: Insignificant?

Maybe not. Link.

The conflict is over a disputed piece of land. Russia has a defense pact with Armenia, and has brokered a truce to stop the fighting. However, this article claims the Azerbaijani's have not only broken the truce, but have begun attacking outside of the disputed area into Armenia?

So what?

The article also claims ISIS has entered the fray on the side of Azerbaijan with the support of Turkey. Also, Israel is siding with Azerbaijan.

So if the conflict intensifies and Russia is forced to intervene militarily, we are back to the same place as in Syria. The West and the jihadis will support one side and Russia will support the other. And who knows where it all leads?

Haven't those countries been fighting since the USSR dissolved? I know someone who works as a journalist in nearby Georgia. He visited those countries and said they have constant skirmishes. If they returned to all out war, my guess would be it would mostly be between them. However, who knows what Russia or ISIS would do.

I see no reason for the US to take a side. If Russia wants to get involved and help a side, I do not think it should matter to us, especially if they end up fighting ISIS. Sometimes we need to take a step back and acknowlege that some parts of the world are of no strategic value to us and antagonizing Russia there would do us no good.

The US may see Azerbaijan as a customer. We wouldn't send troops there, but the little country is oil rich and we would sell them weapons. Also, the US views this as another opportunity to destabilize Russia. So it's to the US advantage to encourage the Azeris to fight and for the US to support their war efforts to stop "Russian Aggression."

We need to try to halt Islamic aggression wherever we can. If that means siding with Russia, so be it.

Supporting Azerbajan today is like supporting Afghanistan in the 80s, except with more risk and less reward. It will not destablize Russia, but could create a failed state where Islamic terrorists can thrive. Russia is a shell of its former self. It's not that great of a threat and its not going to do anything to any NATO countries that would lead to nuclear war. We should be working with Russia to combat the threat of Islamic terrorism, not breeding Islamic terrorism to combat the threat of a soviet ghost. The Russians do not want nuclear war. Islamic terrorists would happily use nuclear weapons. The bigger threat in the year 2016 are the unstable Islamic terrorists.

Unfortunately, we will continue to breed Islamic terror in order to "contain" a soviet ghost (and possibly create a real russian threat by anatomizing them), because our arms manufacturers make money on sending weapons to the middle east and it appeases our eastern european allies who are blinded by fear and hate of russia and only want revenge/to anatognize russia.

Israel and ISIS supporting the same country? talk about strange bedfellows

Israel and ISIS supporting the same country? talk about strange bedfellows

Remember the words of Aeschylus (525 BC to 456 BC) translated now as "In war, truth is the first casualty."

I admit I don't know what that means in the context of the site suggesting ISIS and Israel both supporting Azerbaijan.
Did you read the link?

I've got much to study myself, but the map might give some answers.

Notice that Armenia borders three countries which are hostile to them, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia. The other country with a border to Armenia is Iran. Interestingly, Russia does not share a border with Armenia, yet Russia has a defense arrangement with Armenia. So it would appear the only route to aid Armenia would be through Iran.

I'm guessing that Iran would be the conduit for Russia to supply Armenia, so it is likely Iran would be more partial to Armenia. If so, there's your rationale for Israel to side with Azerbaijan.

Keep in mind, at this point ISIS has never targeted Israel, but has targeted both Syria and Shiite controlled Iraq, both of which have ties to Iran. So ISIS would just be a convenient tool for Israel in this conflict to weaken its arch enemy, Iran.

The ISIS jihadis can be traced to Saudi, Qatar, and the Wahabbi Gulf States that also want to weaken Iran and the possibility of the Shiite ascendency in the Middle East. Makes for seemingly strange bed fellows.

You made a point I had not considered, that so far ISIS has not gone after Israel. So many of the Islamic factions and leaders have I simply did not stop to consider.
This conflict with all its' twists and turns can not be good for us and the west
