Arizona....wtf!?!?!

For those of you that did not see it...

Arizona ties the game at 71 with less then a minute left....UAB inbounds the ball and an Arizona player intentionally fouls as apparently he did not know the score.

Oh but it gets better....

With the score tied Arizona misses a shot with 2 seconds left. A UAB player rebounds the ball and is not even 1/4th the way up the court as he just tries to throw the ball at the basket......and an Arizona player reaches out to grab him as if Arizona was behind. The foul is a shooting foul and the UAB player wins the game on a FT after being fouled on a shot down at the other end of the court.

Flat out amazing outcome and amazingly dumb actions by Arizona players. For this to happen twice in a minute....Did the Arizona coach not tell his players they were tied? Does he need to? Do coaches regularly need to remind players what the heck is going on in the game they are playing?

Maybe it's players reacting to how they've been jerked around by Olson and the administration for the last year and a half.

And that's why AZ's streak of consecutive NCAA tournaments might be in jeopardy this year. Chase - I feel for you bro. You might be regretting that decision to come back to school this year.

When you look at AZ, they have a nice nucleus in Wise, Budinger, and Hill. The problem is that those three are really all they have and as talented as Hill is, he is very foul prone and takes himself out of games. Hopefully, things can turn around, but Lute screwed the pooch these last few years and now it's starting to effect the program. I mean talk about a mass exodus from an elite program.

Found this gem on an AZ message board re: Horne at the end -

"In the future, anytime I hear the term "Basketball IQ", I will always not think of that play."

Look at that thread ghost linked....Wow...Man, they are worse then a certain poster on this board about goiing after each other.

I don't think that deserved an "intentional" call as he barely even touched the guy. It might have been a shooting foul and thus an extra FT, but UAB getting the ball back was overkill for a light foul. Yes, it was technically intentional as it was done on purpose, but that is true of all late-game clock-stopping fouls when a team is behind.

Still hard to believe two guys from the same team made that same exact ridiculous screwup back-to-back.

In the Youtube video, you can see the coach helping the fans make noise. Can't say Ive ever seen that either. Could you imagine Rick Barnes doing that?

Also too, why don't we schedule a team like Arizona when they have owned us for so long, and we don't get them when they are down? It'd be nice to give some payback.

Arizona, being a bigtime basketball school, should never be allowed to live this down.

This akin to Texas losing to Central Florida in football by spiking the ball to stop the clock on 4th down in OT. OR perhaps Fran from aggy screwing up the 2pt conversion call a few years ago. I can't really remember the details of that one, but it was bad. I don't know, I can't think of a better comparison, I guess hat will have to do.
