The 2014 & 2015 in-state classes are just full of talented players. Glad the coaching staff is securing some of them for the future.
Dry and Washington are in different classes. Foman and Washington are both 2014, so perhaps that was where a decision on who to offer was made.
Honestly, when Aston got the early commitment for 2014 Ja'lea Bennett, I just assumed we were out of it for Ariel Atkins as they appear to be very similar players (size-wise); perhaps they have different skill sets.
I saw J Bennett for the first time in the playoffs vs Flower Mound Marcus. She is taller and more physical than Atkins........the program listed her as 6'-1" but probably 1-2" shorter. She is left-handed which is an advantage. She played the entire game and never looked winded or tired. Scored 14 points but almost all were around the basket/drives to her left hand. Her outside shot was not there..........looked ok but didnt go in......first one was an air ball. Good defensively, passer, screener.......coaches will love her........but will never be a big scorer. She deferred to some of the seniors on the team. Next year she MAY be more take-charge of the team. Atkins has some of the same attributes but in my opinion WILL be a scorer and more of a two guard. Bennett will be a 3 or 4 but might play 2 in some situations. In my opinion, they wont compete against each other as to position. Both will be good college players and we will be proud to have them as Horns.
thanks for the update on Bennett, Flash. Sounds like a good height for a wing, which I thins she will be at Texas. 6 feet is a couple of inches taller than she was listed last year on ESPN.
This very good news and makes our 2014 class look a lot better. "47% from the 3-point line...ability to score at will" are the kind of comments you want to hear about a recruit. Texas desperately needs backcourt scorers. I wish she was coming in 2013.
I was glad she committed to U.T., though her resume seemed good but not sensational. Hoopgurlz had her as a 4-star prospect with a score of 91, and not in the top 100. For comparison, Imani, was a 5-star with a score of 96, rated the 10th best prospect in the country--- and was probably underrated. I hope it turns out they underrated Ariel, too. This is promising.
I wouldn't go by Hoopgurlz. The same writers and rankers moved over to prospects nation where Ariel is now ranked 36. She has shot up the ranks after her play as of late.
Atkins named to MaxPreps All American Team. She makes the third team. Can't wait to see her in burnt orange. She's one of the hottest prospects in the country and will likely finish ranked in the top 15 in all the recruiting sites! LINK
