Are We Slow?

I am just wondering if our secondary is slow. Every time our d-line is putting pressure on the quaterback he just throws it to one of the wide open recievers because we give everyone a 10 yard cusion. It seems to me that if we are putting pressure on the quarterback we should press the recievers because the pass will be quick.

And p.s. Earl Thomas could not cover my little sister.

i think the whole team is slow. we have a lot of 'quick' players, but not a lot of burners. i laughed when they said quan had 10.3 100m speed. he is very quick and has good acceleration but was caught easily on that long pass to him by the 2 people covering him

maybe it's the altitude.

Quan had just broken a tackle and was not at full speed when he was run down. He did run a 10.4 100M in high school. That was 7 years ago for Quan and he may not be that fast right now.

Earl Thomas may be a good safety for us at some point in the future, but he is getting burned right now and is playing with zero confidence. We need to see if someone else can get it done in that spot.

Eddie Jones looked pretty fast to me, for his size.

Quan is still fast, but he's never been one to dazzle on the field. He gets it done, though.

I'm waiting to see if Jordan Shipley still has his top gear. He could burn in the day.

Fozzy looks fast. Real fast. Marcus Williams moves well. Blake Gideon seems to be more of a "right place, right time" kind of guy, and I'll take that. Our LBs can move.

I don't think we're slow at all.

Earl Thomas did not look good out there tonght.
i thought he was supposed to be our best safety and Gideon is consistently better.
where are Christen Scott and Ben Wells?

Slow? Overreact much? Just about every team in the Top 10 struggled at some point today. I think the problem was more like DBs and LBs being out of position a good bit of the time. The only thing that really worried me tonight was very poor tackling from just about everybody on the field. However, those kind of things can be fixed. We have a young team that doesn't have much experience, but is stacked with talent. Mistakes are going to happen.

My point has never been that I think we are slow. I am just confused as to why we seem to give every player on the other team so much respect. Why can't our DB's get on the line knowing that our D-Line will force a quick throw. As long as we give these big cussions the QB just hits a wide open reciever when he is pressured.

I also do not understand our practice of lining up on the line of scrimmage and choosing not to bump the reciever. If we are the same speed, or even if I am slower, and I am facing forward and you are facing backward and you don't touch me I am going to be past you in a heartbeat.

It just seems like our DB's are not on the same page as our front seven. I know we are young but at this rate even if we get better there are several teams in the Big 12 that will destroy our secondary. I am not overracting. I just have not been impressed with our defense at all.

I am hoping that we are keeping things very basic in these first games so that we do not show everything to our conference foes.

I will say that as one point it looked like our defensive coordinator was more excited than our defensive players. He is fun to watch on the sideline. I hope he can instill some of that intensity to our players.

some of you older guys will remember Scott Case of OU in the mid80s who later won a SB or two with Dallas. That is what Gideon could become.
