Are the Horns done for 2009?

Question for you guys. Is Mack done for 2009 recruiting? WHats left on his plate for this year?

I ask because it seems TAMU is down to 2 spots and Sherman is going to save those for Christine Michael and Craig Loston. Word is we are slow playing to the point of passing on Mossakowski.

Anyway, if both TAMU and UT are done (for the most part with 2009), I'd expect to see the coaches' attention turn towards 2010. And with both schools ready to focus on 2010 this early, I'd imagine an onslaught of offers/commitments even earlier for the 2010 class.

I wonder how this will affect other schools who are still working on 2009.

Thoughts?

Texas will recruit McFarland until he reaches a decision. There are also a few others Texas is actively recruiting at the moment (Kennard, Kirkpartick, etc.). However, save that small handful of people, Texas is basically done for the '09 class. Mack and Co. have been focusing on the stars of the '10 class (Jeffcoat, Wilson, Nelson, Seastrunk, Carter, etc.) for several months now.

it seems we always get someone near the end totally off the radar even thought it appears to everyone else that we don't have the schollies.

No.

As of right now, there are 85 scholarships accounted for on the roster for 2009.

Figuring attrition (early entrants, transfers, and such), we probably have room for 2 or 3 more, at least.

I hope we're not so cautious with handing out scholies that we end up with a situation like what we have in 2008 (only 79 scholarship players).

I doubt they go out and actively recruit anybody new, but there are a few offers still out and they will stay in on those guys for sure.

With Monroe switching from DB to WR I could see them go after another CB or take a 2nd look at it at least. Still could use 1 more DT for sure.

Thanks to everyone for the responses.

I'm real curious to see how quickly the 2010 class fills up. Sherman has already had a junior day and the kids haven't stepped foot on campus yet as juniors.

I'd suspect that Mack and his coaches have started paring down their lists and will spend most of their recruiting time this fall on 2010 kids.

Bundy, Mack and team have also already had 2 Junior Days for 2010 prospects. You're right in that most the recruiting focus now is on 2010. Most all the top talent in Texas we invited showed up to one of the two days. Looks like it could be a good year for us, but of course it is still very, very early.

While it may seem recruiting starts earlier and earlier each year, Mack has a policy of one class at a time. His policy is not to extend any offers for the upcoming recruiting class until the current one has wound up. This means he won't extend any offers for the 2010 class until after signing day next year 2009.

some other names I've heard are Kirkpatrick's teammate kendall kelly, I think we recently stopped recruiting Darius Winston, Also Gabe Lynn from Jenks, OK, Jarvis Jones from GA, possibly still Kevin Brent
