Are Omaha Steaks edible?

My wife's sister sent us a half-dozen "bacon wrapped top sirloins" from Omaha Steaks. I've always thought their stuff seemed way overpriced, but I have to admit, I've never actually tried it. There was never a reason, since I can buy never-frozen product locally for less. Now we have these in our freezer and my wife wants me to grill up a couple for dinner tonight.

They're not like that salty brined crap you get at HEB, are they?

Any hints, other than the usual salt, pepper, and olive oil?

Salt first, then a light sprinkle of garlic powder, then pepper. Have not tried olive oil myself.

The only Omaha steak I have had was in Omaha, and it was not the brand name, but it was good.

Cube them and make yourself some above average Carne Guisada.

Crap. I was going to grill them. Should I fry them in an iron skillet, and make a pan sauce? I have some red wine, some onion, some garlic, and all the usual herbs, etc.

I think I stand a better chance of keeping them tender on the grill, though. I can get it hotter.

How the hell do I make a bearnaise sauce? What is that, butter and ???

I don't like Omaha Steaks but I also receive them as gifts fairly frequently, Their filets are the best thing they have IMO. Cooking them under a super hot broiler seems to work better than anything for me.

They are better than the prepackage filets most grocery stores carry. They are no competition for Allen Bros meats but you can still make a decent meal from them.

OK, they certainly weren't bad. I'd say they were similar to what a "better" chain like Texas Land & Cattle Company serves. A little tough, but plenty of sirloin flavor.

I did the usual olive oil + salt + pepper routine, grilled them for just over 5 minutes a side, and topped them with the cabernet-balsamic sauce I referred to earlier. We served them with twice-baked potatoes, salad, and bread:

At a dollar an ounce, one can do somewhat better for a lot less money at CostCo, but they were a nice gift, regardless.

they are good if it is a gift and they are free but they are way too expensive. you can basically go to central market and get a much better grade of meat for the same price per pound.

Glad it worked out JJazz. My wife is from Omaha. We have a friend that likes to send her stuff from Omaha steaks for gifts. As mentioned, OK quality; overpriced.
The two things I do like are:
1 - Stuffed Sole with Scallops and Crab
2 - Potatoes au Gratin

Be advised. If you ever order anything from them, you will be pounded/hounded by phone sales from those folks.

We regularly cook and eat them in the Rosenblatt Stadium parking lot during the CWS.

Of course, everything seems to taste better there.

Omaha Steaks were better before they got so big. That's the downside of the Internet.

I'm a little biased but Nebraska corn-fed beef is by far the best this country produces which is why most of the best steakhouses advertise Nebraska aged beef. When I go back to visit every couple of year I make sure to take a 60 gallon cooler and stock it up with meat from our family butcher.

Well, I've never seen USDA Prime for $16 per pound, except a couple of times that certain HEBs tried to get in the higher-end market. (I once bought every Prime ribeye they had when they mis-priced it at something like $5 per pound.)

That having been said, it's trivially easy to find better steaks locally for less money, so I certainly don't see the value in ordering from Omaha Steaks.
