Architecture question

I disagree. Unless it is hot pink of some color like that, I think the change can be nice. Everytime I see construction of anything I hope it is not some ******** turnaround that is up in a couple of weeks and plain jane. When I see some creativity and style I am overjoyed.

I am let down more than overjoyed usually. Those guys doing something would make me pleased. I think they would do something to conform with the environs and buildings around it. I don't think they would just come up with something and force it on the area around it for people to see. Give them credit, they deserve it. They have earned it. I mean, just look at their stuff and how it affects the big picture as opposed to stand alone.

As the famous architect Pat Healy, who designed Celinto Catayente Towers (just down the road from the Estadio Olimpico) once said, "Look at the buildings Totalitarinism".

Their Katrina houses were interesting.

The Bend House looks like it is already broken:

The pickup is a nice touch, however.

Sure. I mean, most people think Frank Gehry is very progressive. There are also a lot of good American architects working in International Firms. There are some pretty good Texas architects such as Lake|Flato. And then there are some very progressive Austin architects such as Miro Rivera and MJ Neal. There are others, but those came to mind first.

Nothing new here. Ralph Erskine started this particular ball rolling in 1973 with his housing design for Milton Keynes, England (Byker Wall). Inspired by Byker, Rem Koolhaas in his 1978 “Delirious New York” illustrated what Bernardo Fort-Brescia, Laurinda Spear, Andres Duany, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, and Hervin Romney as the Miami firm Arquitectonica got to build (The Atlantis and The Palace condos) twenty five years ago.

I’m not a fan of these block buildings. They’re difficult to live in and eat up a lot of sky. I’ll take a tower over this building form any day.

Austin is getting a Michael Graves Tower (Four Seasons Residences). That would have generated interest a while back. We’re just not that profession anymore. Only one star now.

After working in industry for several years as an engineer, I deeply wanted to go back to school to study architecture. I sat down with Larry Speck to discuss. He really came across as a great guy with a true love for architecture.

Unfortunately, my degree in EE wouldn't have really helped me out in Architecture... and I would have pretty much had to start from scratch....

Uh, not so fast. You too can be a "building designer" right now!
