Or whatever his name it...

Is it normal for a player to fail multiple drug tests in college but never get suspended? I didn't look it up, but, if he did get suspended please disregard my ignorance.

Les Miles and Phil Fulmer aside, I thought failing drug tests - multiple times - gets one in a little trouble with the coaching staff and NCAA in general.

I know we've had our share of thugs so I'm not trying to come at this topic with a "WWMBD" (what would Mack Brown do?). I'm genuinely curious. Is it normal for one to fail multiple drug tests at a school and suffer little to no repurcussions or is this a case of special treatment to the star player by a classless coach?

Do you have a link because this is the first I've heard of it. Maybe Mangino squashed the news from getting out...with his massive girth.

Same here. This is all news to me. If this were true, I would have expected more of the draft prognosticators to comment on it. This wouldn't be a small issue, especially with Roger Goodell's push for greater ethics and stronger character.

I saw that on ESPN last night. Taliq and Manningham have admitted to smoking weed and that Taliq failed 3 drug tests in college. They didn't go into any detail about that. The conversation was about how their draft stock dropped.

how the hell did they keep that under the rug!!! Well the NCAA might start lookin into that program. So much for coach of the year.

This off-season has shown that Mangino's appetite for winning has no bounds and he will cook up anything. There isn't a huge difference between him and Switzer except in appearance.

or maybe he could care less if his players smoke weed.

that ought to be enough to hijack this thread into the legalization debate just like any other thread in the history of hornfans that concerned weed.

Knox, I know you're a Fulmer hater and that's fine, but the Phat One has a long track record of severe punishment for repeated drug offenses. Lynn McGruder, Onterrio Smith, James Banks, LaMarcus Coker...all of these guys were stars and were kicked off the team for drug violations. He will tolerate a player beating the hell out of a student in a pickup basketball game, but he does not tolerate drug use without pretty severe punishment. I'm not sure how Fulmer fits into this conversation.

I think it's pretty obvious that Mangino's gravitational pull is so strong that it keeps stories like this from getting out (see: escaping) Lawrence. You may have hear of this naturally occurring phenomenon otherwise sometimes referred to as a Black Hole.

If you think some of your favorite Longhorns don't or didn't smoke dope and not get suspended then I've got some real estate for you.

Come on. If you're a NFL prospect playign at Kansas only murder is goingto keep you off the team. Last year notwithstanding, they don't have a lot to work with up there.

The Fulmer Cup - The Fulmer Cup, named after Tennessee Volunteers head coach and his school of well-behaved student-athletes, is an invention of EDSBS. It replaced Dijkstra's Thug Watch threads.

The topic is about discretions and how coaches deal with such issues.

By the way, it only took Lamarcus Coker FOUR failed drug tests to get kicked of the team...

"A source told the News Sentinel that if Coker were dismissed Friday, it would be because he failed a drug test.

Under Tennessee's revamped drug policy, a player is immediately dismissed following a fourth positive test for marijuana."

He was definitely 'smoked' by the Neb receiving corps which led me to conclude he was not the all-world player touted by Kiper, et. al.

Nothing that you don't see at many other schools................

It's amazing how little was mentioned about this up until recently. This is a definite red flag, and you certainly do expect his stock to drop. All you need to do is look at former Florida DT Marcus Thomas to see a former first round prospect fall to the fourth round because of repeated drug violations and suspensions--especially when he goes on to have drug violations even AFTER he is drafted.

I really don't think this will drop his stock as much as Manningham. Not only did Manningham smoke pot and fail a test(s) while at Michigan, but then he lied about it to NFL Scouts. Lying is a definate 'No-No' when someone is determining whether or not they are going to hand you millions of dollars for playing a game.

IMHO, Talib is the best corner in the draft and I hope the Cowboys can snag him with one of their two 1st Rounders.
