Apt's in South/Southwest Austin

I'm about to start work at a place in the Penn Field Complex (S. Congress, just north of 290/Ben White) pretty soon. Need an apt. rather quick and i'm looking for something close to work... so South Austin, maybe Southwest Austin. Any suggestions on good ones? Looking to spend in the 600's for a 1/1. On another note, if I do get an apt. in SW Austin, can anyone tell me how bad traffic is on 290/Ben White between MoPac and 35 during morning and post work rush hour?

We live at The Preserve at Travis Creek off of Southwest Pkwy. I work at South Austin Hospital and it's about a 10 minute drive tops to get there. I don't really ever have problems with traffic on 290; the worst part about it is the traffic lights to get to the highway, but even those aren't bad. I can usually get through only sitting through 1 cycle, maybe 2 if it's really busy.

I'm not sure about the pricing for 1 bedrooms. We are in a 1/1 with a den so the price is a lot higher, but I think they have 2 or 3 1/1 floor plans to offer. I LOVE this place and definitely think it's worth checking out.

You might want to PM Durkee about an apartment search; he does this for a living and can give you the scoop on lots of places.

I work at St Ed's, and the traffic on Ben White is not bad at all, especially now that the ramps to 35 are open and it's not a huge clusterfuck around the S Congress exit everymorning. If you lived in one of those apartments off MoPac b/w Wm Cannon and 290 (don't know cost or anything), it would take you about 5-10 mins to get to work.

We lived at River Stone Ranch for awhile off Mopac in between William Cannon and Mopac. Can't say good enough things. We were in the largest two bedroom for around 900, so I am sure you can get a great deal on the 1's.
