Apple adding 3600 jobs in Austin

Note to out-of-towners / out-of-staters:

All of these new jobs at Apple have already been taken.

No need to plan on coming here, but thanks for your interest.

Anti immigrant racist.

One of the wealthiest corporations in the entire world, and Texas gives them $21 million in incentive.

Must be nice.

There you go playing a weak race card again.

I know you're not trying to be funny or sarcastic since those are abilities you don't possess.

21MM? I'll take that trade all day if I'm the state of Texas. I'd bet the jobs, facilities and indirect tax revenues pay off that $21MM in the first month or two.

Secondly- all states have an economic development arm that bribes companies to move there- that's just how it works.

Way to go Perry!!!!

The truth hurts doesn't it! What Tech companies did Ann Richards get to move here? They moved here because of Dell and they even moved outside of Democratic Travis County, why was that?

Hi-tech Austin exploded while Ann Richards was gov. Don't know how much she helped, but she didn't hurt the industry. Growth continued skyrocketing under GWB. It slowed to a crawl while Goodhair was gov, only picked up in Austin as well as the rest of the state in the past 3 yrs. Hmmm....

BTW, Dell moved offices to the WillCo part of Round Rock to take advantage of significant tax incentives from RR; had nothing to do w/ Ann Richards or Slick. Engineering labs and what little manufacturing / unitization / repair work that Dell still does in Austin is still in Democratic Travis County (East Parmer Ln).

Yes Majorwhite, my feelings are soo hurt because you offered your two cents which happen to be completely false.

Gov. Richards isn't 100% responsible for all tech firms in Austin, but she did help start the party by heavily recruiting them to relocate to Austin to take advantage of the steady supply of smart graduates from our university. This fact is very clear to most Austin residents who actually lived there in the late 80's to mid 90's to see the difference as well as know what she did.

Richards was elected pre-partisan hysteria, and could never be re-elected again. I went and read her bio again this morning for kicks- it seems that many of her friends in the politics were Republicans as she worked in a time when both parties worked together. Today, we have beaut comments like the above who could never imagine someone from their opposite party doing anything good, nor ever acknowledging it.

PERRY PERRY PERRY PERRY!!!!!!!

Why did Dell leave Travis county again? Why did they leave the Democratic stronghold in Central Texas?

DEMOCRATS have no clue how to attract Businesses!!!!

Dell attracted all of these companies, Ann Richards didn't, W didn't either it was about being close to DELL.

Claiming it was because of some do nothing governor 15 years ago is the partisian crap.

Thank PERRY FOR APPLE and all of the jobs created in at least the past 8 years!!!

PERRY PERRY PERRY!!!

Democrats can't even mount a serious run at PERRY THE JOBS CREATOR!!!!!!

One last question:

When was the Texas Enterprise Fund created and who created it? How much has it generated for the State of Texas?

The funny thing is, I have always voted against Perry, I just like watching liberals squirm when they open their mouths and the first thing that happens is there foot is shoved in that big open space!!!!

I find it funny that posters on this thread are fighting over which governor is responsible for Austin's tech boom. As if the governor had anything to do with it.

True that, GTT. Started w/ TI in the late '60s, accelerated by IBM in the '70s, Motorola and MCC in the '80s, Dell and AMD in the '80s and '90s, along w/ many, many more.

As much as any reason is Austin being home to UT.

Perry is a clown. Case closed. Job creator, please. Texas Governors have little to do with that. Even insane Republican primary voters didn't buy his grade A ********

msd,

I read your post and think you have the impression a giant check is written to a company and a card that says "Good luck, enjoy!"

Every single US State, and most every developed country in the modern world does what Texas did for Apple- which is offer tax breaks, incentives etc on conditions such as creating X number of jobs, establishing facilities, and other criteria.

Sometimes companies will get a bidding war between say Ireland and France and Canada. Or will analyze the offers between Arizona, Texas and Florida- that is simply how it works. It is a net positive for all parties involved if you do the math on a spread sheet.

As a capitalist, I WANT my government to do this all day long. It is foregone taxes in exchange for creating 100x that in tax revenue.

I'm no Perry fan but he does have a good track record of bringing businesses to Texas. It certainly has nothing to do with his personal likability.
