Apartments in Houston

Seems like a thread like this pops us every few months or so but here it is again.

I am moving to Houston this summer and will need an apartment for a year while my wife finishes he residency in the Med Center. I will be working at Richmond and Beltway 8. I was thinking some place downtown or south of that along 59 in Montrose/West U area. Anybody have any suggestions? Besides Dallas folk saying don't move there?

2 Bedrooms and at least 1 Bath for under 1000 would be ideal.

Check out these archstone aparments in West U. I forget the cross street lot of folks from the med center stay there.

They have 2beds one bath and 1 bed one bath with a den(HUGE DEN) for around 700-800 bucks

I will be moving to houston in the fall and i loved those apts

Places in Greenway Plaza would probably be the ideal location to minimize the commutes. She could go right up Kirby to the Medical Center and you could take Westpark to the Westpark Tollway and that could actually be pretty quick (although you'll be paying a couple of bucks a day). There's an Archstone complex in Greenway Plaza that is nice, as well as a bunch of other complexes around there. If you go downtown, she'd have a very quick drive up 288 to the medical center, but you'd have to take I-10 all the way to the Beltway, and although technically you'd be going against traffic, I'd say you're still looking at 30-45 minutes. Also, downtown (or midtown is actually where you'd look) is very trendy and not the place to find a cheap option. West U, suggested earlier is pretty similar in location to Greenway Plaza and would also allow you to take the Westpark Tollway and her to just take Bellaire/Holcomb straight into the medical center.

I can't think of many quick ways to get to the medical center from around where you're looking and if it were me, I'd definitely choose to stay in town near one of the areas I suggested. Living close to the start of the Westpark Tollway is huge b/c that is the only quick way for you to get west to your job. The Westpark tollway starts at 610, just south of 59 and goes well past the Beltway. It's toll tag only, so traffic is low. But, because it ends at 610, it doesn't get you that close to the medical center and her commute would be tougher. That's why I say find something close to equidistant between the start of the tollway and the medical center.

Yeah, I'm thinking Greenway Plaza is your best happy medium. I know Camden has a complex on Buffalo Speedway. Don't know what the rent is, though.

I actually live at the Camden Greenway. Very convenient.

I pay about $800 for a small one bedroom. Feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions.

Allen House is a ******* ********...the only good thing about living there died when they knocked down the Aquarium...

I live at Camden also. $730 for 736 sq.ft. one bedroom on the third floor. Pretty nice complex, lots of attractive women walking around. Walls are thin as paper though. I know you can get a 2 bedroom at Westcreek Apartments (Westheimer and 610) for about $695 a month, they're not bad and there is a residential street (Kettering Dr) that puts you right out on Richmond in a hurry. PM if you want more details of the area.

^^^ That's a good point. I even see advertisements for the place. Seems like a steal--although, evening traffic can be a hassle.

I lived at Camden for THREE years and I NEVER met you folks?! Damn, what a wasted built-in gamewatching opportunity. Seriously though, Camden was an amazing place to live for a young professional. Management is superb by typical apt. management standards. AMAZING location when you take into account all that is available to you in a 2 mile radius. But, like it was said earlier, the walls can be quite thin. Never did have a complaint from my booming home theater setup, however.

I left paying $1,170 for a 2/2 w/ about 1,075 square feet. Not sure how much rent has gone up in the past couple years, but I thought at the time that I got a fair deal after looking around. And, when you factor in the attractive girl value, it practically pays for itself!!!

We have a friend that lives off of Kirby on North. He's been pretty happy there for about 3 years and is considering moving into a 2 bedroom until he finds a place to buy. It's right around the corner from Goode & Co. and their new Armadillo Bar.
