AP - UT #3, but most 1st place votes

Perfectly content with us not being #1. This just tells you how voters cast their votes anyways. They simply look at a teams record in terms of losses.

Hard to complain about being ranked #3 out of about 350 D1 basketball teams, including ahead of Duke even though we have one more loss. It's impressive.

Hope they stay at 2 or 3 rest of the year so they can keep their edge. Going to be very difficult to win out thru Big 12 tournament.

Was thinking about this earlier and I think I would put us at #3 as well. tOSU doesn't have a loss like USC and neither does KU. As long as we get a 1 seed I don't care very much about our ranking.

It's pretty much a three-way tie at the top. I am OK with it.

This week's poll is quite revealing in that different ranking philosophies are quite apparent. First, there are those who were willing to look beyond # losses and tried to discern who has the most impressive wins and who's playing best now. Most of these people voted Texas #1.

On the other extreme, there are those who looked at the loss column and decided that tOSU's road loss @ Wisconsin was not as bad as Kansas' home loss to Texas disregarding when those losses occurred. They kept tOSU at #1 and Texas #3 or #4 for the most part.

Also, there are voters who seem to have used some combination of these two extremes.

I strongly disagree with two or three voters. Otherwise I felt that reasonable people could disagree.

See pollspeak.com for details.

It looks to me AP voters actually stick to their own individual philosophy. The Coaches Poll is a good example of mindless herd mentality, although I am happy with Texas' #2 ranking.

Yeah, I don't know why we are voted ahead of Duke or Pitt. Especially Pitt, since they beat us and have one less loss.

Actually hoping tOSU goes back on top with their single loss with a lot of KU people voting them higher.

Texas finally had a game that was a little scary and we could have loss.

Gem, you mentioned Notre Dame. I haven't followed close, but it seems they have some quality wins, and they play in a very tough conference.

At number 8 they are just a little under the radar. I'm thinking they could be a very tough draw for anyone in March.

I'm curious about who their four losses are to. Guess I'll look it up.

F'g Notre Dame.
