Anyone writing homeowner's ins. in Texas?

So Mrs. Ghost & I discover that--despite repeated guarantees from our State Farm agent (held policies w/ her for 15+ years) that we would have no problem getting a homeowner's policy for the house we're about to buy--just as we're about to place a bid SF is no longer underwriting any new HO policies. WTF? My agent's POd and is gonna try to work something out through a loophole, but needless to say we're anxious, nervous, & highly pissed. The wife is gonna check w/ All State & Nationwide (she used to have auto policies w/ them), but we're looking for backup plans.

Can anybody recommend a good HO insurance provider for the Austin/Cedar Park area these days? They would likely also get the rest of our insurance business if they covered the home.

We were able to get a policy through Texas Select for our new home. It's a Lloyds policy, but the rate was better than what we were paying Travelers on our old house. Our agent told us that they would only right a policy on improvements worth $400,000 or less, though. Good Luck.

Ours was placed through William Gammon Insurance here in town. They even beat my USAA rate, which is very unusual.

I guess State Farm is simply trying to reduce the amount of reate adjustments it agreed to when Governor Perry gave them a hall pass for ripping off Texans.

Pretty smart of StateFarm actually. Agree to not pay any damages for your thievery, but agree to reduced policy premiums in the future. Then stop writing policies and simply reduce the payout that way.

Thank you Governor Perry!

William Gammon here in Austin works for me and the fiancee. Still expensive, but we live in Texas - Mold Scare Capitol of the World.

try www.amica.com.

They were still covering mold claims when we bought the policy 8 months ago. They've been reasonable price wise and you will get a discount on the auto policy.

Thanks for the tips, y'all. Much to my (pleasant) surprise, my agent did manage to pull some strings & get us coverage via State Farm (a very agreable policy w/ a rate even lower than a similar one from Nationwide). So I'm prepared to write them a check for years and years to come & hope I never file a claim against it. Crazy.

That's almost twice what we'll be paying for a similar policy from State Farm ($765 for $148K replacement). Nationwide's quote was about $100 more per year (both policies include a discount for covering our cars as well).

I am paying $1300 for a replacement value of $230k with Travelers. Does anyone think that I could beat that? I have shopped around a little, but not with all of the companies you have mentioned. How does that compare with yours, like the William Gannon rates?
