Anyone seen Green Zone?

I saw it, it's okay. It's surely not bad but I am glad I went during a matinee. If the time it is playing fits your schedule and other movies are overcrowded, go see it. Don't expect much other than some war stuff and you won't mind it.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 6.6.

I recommend it. Greengrass knows how to put together a movie and Damon is good. Not a great movie, but a good one.

It bashes the Bush Administration so if you can forget the fact that Hollywood still has a hard-on for the Bushies then I guess it's OK (based on reviews I have not seen it yet) . I'd wait until it comes on HBO etc. I wouldn't pay to see it. You would think after all the other anti-Bush movies that have tanked the "brain-trusts " in Hollywood would quit throwing away good money after bad! But once a liberal always a liberal.

The movie also condemns the media for not being more certain of the "facts" they were passing along. I can see where the politics of the movie would be something of a put off for those who believe the Bush admin about the war, but the movie is a nicely paced bit of action thriller.

I guess I can see where somebody may want to think that this was an anti-Bush film with an agenda but I never thought this. I just thought about it covering some factual things or related scenarios in how it was mishandled from the get go. They embellished some here and there and likely left other things out. It was entertaining.

This movie looks dreadful. It's only redeaming feature for Hollywood must have been it looks like it cost $4.98 to make, by just splicing extra footage from the Borne Conspiracy/Addendum/Redundancy with shots of Matt Dumb *** Damon running around in camo in front of a green screen. Another war movie stinker from H-town.

No. Once you realize what the movie is about (I didn't know going in), it is just boring. The characters are all one dimensional and predictable. They are either good or bad and not much in between. The only character that is halfway interesting doesn't make any sense. They never really develop the characters or their motivations. The real problem with the movie is it attempts to create a thrilling conspiracy theory movie about a conspiracy that is basically a popular and well known theory. Anyone who identifies conservative will likely hate the movie, and a lot of people who aren't are going to be bored by a make believe thrill ride that they've already rode in real life.

I will say the movie does have some redeeming features. Like any thrill ride, even though you may know exactly what is coming, the turns and dips can be a little bit exciting because the production of the movie is pretty high quality. However the action is too little and surrounded around a bland plot and cardboard characters.

How anyone can deny the political agenda of the flick is beyond me. It is blatant and in your face from about 10 minutes into the movie. It covers all the basic talking points you'd expect. There is some criticism of the media (kind of), but if you think that makes the movie unbiased [insert cliche here].

Wait for HBO or to rent it. I expect it to be on the rental shelves very very soon.

Who denied the movie had a political point of view? I know "agenda" has a nice sinister sound to it, but POV seems more apt for a movie.

Combat is often predictable. The problem is getting around and defeating what you know is there. Little twists and the human factor make it tedious. This movie was quite like what was going on there at the time and a lot of people were not on the same sheet of music with their own ideas on what to do and how to handle things. Having served I totally felt the roles were well played according to how many soldiers are in their job classifications. You know a grunt, you know a REMF and you for sure know the Special Ops type. They mold you, they program you and you react usually accordingly. I found there to be less stretching of the truth than in other movies.

Every person there was not bulletproof. There was a good chance of death at any turn. The more I think about it the more I like this movie. I still say that it is not something to plan your day around seeing but if it is at a time that works for you and the line for a new release is really long, go see it.

I was referring to how other people use that word, but did not indicate that when I wrote, so good point.

Anyway, I don't think there is any denying the political POV, but I don't think that diminishes the pleasure of watching the movie. On a broader level, the movie seems to be making the political point that you should know what you're asking soldiers to fight for. That applies as much to the Viet Nam War (Dem stupid war) as it does to Iraq (GOP stupid war).

The movie is definitely not terribly deep, but it was a good ride. IMHO.

According to IMDb, the cost was an estimated $100M.

The US gross (thru Mar 21) is ~ $24M.
The UK gross (thru same) is almost £4M.
So, combined, north of $30M.

At Rotten Tomatoes, its at 54% green, which is better than Repo Men (24%) or Alice (52%) but worse than Hot Tub Time Machine (62%), Shutter Island (67%) or How To Train Your Dragon (97%).

I havent seen it but might tune in once it hits cable.
