Anyone know the thinking behind Herman's extension?

So after the 2018 season, Herman's contract was extended by 2 years, keeping him on contract till 23, at what, 5 mill a year?

Any big money donors or big cigar types know the reasoning behind this?

At that point, he still had 3 years on his contract, and doubtful that he would quit, or that another team would hire him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a coach at Texas is on contract and goes to work elsewhere, doesn't the contracted amount have to be paid to Texas? So 15 million would be owed to Texas if he went elsewhere?

With 3 years still left, it's hardly like other teams are going to be telling recruits he was on the way out, so don't go to Texas.

Was the Sugar Bowl win that big of a deal that everyone thought he was the next greatest coach, so sign him up now so you don't have to pay him more money later?

Considering it's guaranteed money, regardless of if 3-5 years from now you still want this guy coaching, 2 years and 10 million bucks seems like a nice and un-needed gift based on his two years of work and overall accomplishments.

So Mack was 30 and 21 in his first 4 seasons. Including missing a bowl game in the 4th. Then rebuilt the program, much like he’s doing at NC. Took us to a Nattie and countless 10 plus win seasons. 9 to be exact. Herman’s first 3 years after taking over crap, he leads to winning seasons, yes a Sugar Bowl win, a a blow out of a really good Utah team. 2 top 5 recruiting classes in 3 years and has the balls to make serious coaching changes. While I don’t care for Herman’s arrogance, I think he’s doing just fine. We are not going to be serious contenders if we send coaches packing. Need to give the guy a chance to rebuild depth and that takes time. Ok I’m done!

The roster Coach Herman inherited vs. the roster we have now is night and day ... that deserves support ... consistency will improve

Mack was. 38-13 his first 4 years. The 4th season ended with the win over Washington in the Holiday Bowl.

Forget about Mack Brown's record; he did the impossible. No school was more fractionalized than The University of Texas. We had more groups of "likes & dislikes" than any school in history. More than W-L, MB reunited the vast majority of the supporters, which in turn allowed Deloss to raise a lot more money and us to enjoy the amenities we have today. That should be Mack Brown's legacy.
